I traveled to Lourdes on a pilgrimage in May of 2001. It was the most amazing experience I ever had in my life. When you come out of the baths you are not allowed to dry yourself off with a towel. Your skin dries naturally and fast! After my friend and I were done, we just stood there starring into... More

Believers from all over the world come to this site to see, feel and share in this religious experience, but you don't have to be Catholic to be moved. There are so many seeking healing for their physical and emotional afflictions, it's difficult not to get caught up in the moment.

The city of Loudes is very commericialized. It is like Las Vegas for Catholics! But the sanctuary is beautiful and calming and spiritual. We attended several Masses while we were there and participated in the beautiful candlelight processions. We also went to the baths, the lines were really long but the experience was worth the long wait.

Well we must recognize that this is a shrine of the Catholic faith. However, it seems unusually compromised by tourism. It's a bit of a healing "factory" for the faithful. There's no charm, no sense of calm, no nothing. I was left feeling a bit cheated. The cathedral is lovely.

The Sanctuary is the whole reason for visiting this town. You should bring your own empty containers to take holy water from the grotto available from two selected areas. You could drink the water. It is known for its curative properties. The line to the grotto is long, so be prepared to wait in line; don't worry, it moves quickly.... More

I recommend taking the train from Montparnasse in Paris. The train ride through Bourdeaux up to the Pyranees is beautiful. Lourdes is a very small village that experienced the miracles of Saint Bernadette. Lourdes has millions of visitors every year, most of them pilgrims. I suggest making your hotel bookings in advance due to the sheer numbers of people. The... More

I had a wonderful time here. Very peaceful and it was managed very well, from the volunteers to the clergies. its amazing how in spite the fact that there were gazillion people and pilgrims, both tourists and people that were there for spiritualities, the crowd was very organized. It was very serene. Its interesting to see that for that time... More

Visited the shrine inJuly 2012 and today thought I must write a review. Though the shrine and surrounding areas are visited by thousands of worshippers / pilgrims daily, the place is kept in a very good shape. The minute you enter the square, you feel the presence of some supernatural. A serene place. We stayed in a nearby hotel for... More

The Sanctuary is a beautiful spacious area. It is so calm and spiritually impressive. Being there in January helped in being able to visit all without waiting in line. I spent two full there and went through all the possible services during this period of the year. It included, The road of the Cross, confession, the baths, the door of... More

My wife and I spent 4 days in Lourdes and it was a very moving experience. Our first day was on a Sunday and we attended the International Mass held in the underground Basilica of St. Pius X. The basilica holds 25000 worshippers and is totally underground and except for the entrance and exit walkways is not visible from the... More
