We hiked to the Chateau de Roquefixade. It was a beautiful wooded hike mostly through the forest, culminating with beautiful views, and a ruined Cathar castle to explore. It was a perfect outing from Toulouse. Along the way we stopped to see a cave and have lunch in a shady green grove. We saw no one on the hike until... More

we parked our car at the entrance of the village. we visited the tiny village and than took the walk to the top, to see the ruine of the chateau. it was a very nice walk. we enjoyed many nice views. the walk is not too heavy, but quite up-hill. Once you are at the top = ruine of the... More

We arrived on a sunny December day in our quest to see all the Cathar castles. The drive up here from Foix is stunning - even if you don't want to walk all the up to the castle the views on the way are well worth the drive. You park in the village and follow the signs to the chateau... More

L'Auberge des Troubadours has new owners and a new name (previously Les Hirondelles). The lunches are fabulous, Jenny has a real flair, the mixed salad came with 5 types of each meat and cheese and home made chutney and pickles and looked and tasted delicious. The house speciality pork ribs are properly messy and come with great sauté potatoes. We... More

We went to Roquefixade on the way to the caves in Niaux. A stunning place. The village is lovely, and the climb to the castle is around 20 mins. The view of the valley is amazing, and the castle ruins on top has a romantic feel to it - I somehow liked it better than the famous neighbouring Montsegur which... More

We went here on a recommendation from our hotel. Great walk to the top of the hill where the Chateaux is located. But more stunning views from the top of the surrounding valley and small villages. The day was clear so we hot. Great view of the Pyrenees mountains. The restaurant at the bottom of the hill is a must... More

This is a wonderful walk from the village to the ruined castle towering high above it. The walk takes about 30 minutes each way and the views from the top are breath taking. You can even see Montsegur castle high up in its peak down the valley. Well worth a visit.

In order to get to the castle of Roquefixade, you have to get up a steep path. Be sure you'll be out of breath when you get there. The castle is in complete ruins, but you get a pretty good view on what it should have looked like. Neverthless, it may be a good idea to read about it beforehand... More

There is a fantastic circular walk for all the family which incorporates a very impressive Cathar castle,. The walk starts in the historic, pretty village of Roquefixade climbs gently through ancient beach tree woodland, between rocky limestone crags. After a slightly steeper section you arrive on a limestone plateau above the castle, offering magnificent views to the higher Pyrenees, a... More
