Originally designed to transport 20000 soldiers in 24 hours, the train station impresses with its size and beauty. It is worth taking a while to walk around and see all the details of decoration of the facade and the halls.

Beautiful old railway station. Built around 1900 when Metz was part of the German Empire. "Kaiser Wilhelm ll " himself designed the station tower. The building is beautifully decorated with numerous carvings and statues. A must see object.

If you do get to Metz even if not arriving by train, take a ten minutes to walk through the amazing reception hall of the main train station. Notice all the statues on the walls.

I sincerely wish they had a storage facility for luggage. We had to curtail our sightseeing in Metz for this mere reason. The building is stunning, though. And many sights are walkable from Metz Gare. If you are traveling light, and have a long layover...More
