This building was part of the fortifications of Perpignan, has been a prison and is now a museum. It is the focal point for locals, near the old bridge across the Canal de Midi where Galleries Lafayette department store is situated with its 4th floor cafe and viewing platform is situated. Well worth a visit. The Little Blue Train leaves from this area. Enjoy.

Gives a useful timeline of Catalan history as applied to Perpignan. Displays are logically organised and descriptions good, but you have to understand French or Catalan. You can get the gist of the content with school French knowledge, but English captions would be easy to do and give a much better experience.
There is also a reconstruction of a peasant farmers kitchen from the area.
The highlight is the rooftop access (142 steps) which gives a magnificent view across the city.
4 Euros entry (accompanied kids free). Worth an hour of anyone's time.

This a good place to walk through (and up) it only takes about 30 minutes. At the top there are great view over the old city and across the canal and into the new city All the signs were in French and Catalan. There seems to be a lot of great history here, but we could not really grasp it because of our lack of language skills. Costs a few euro per person, probably not worth it unless you understand French but I think absolutely would be if you do

I'd recommend visiting this monument because it is in the center of town and there are charming streets and cafe around it. You can also walk along a pretty canal near it. The monument itself is pretty, but you can't enter.

On our first ever visit to France and Perpignan we stayed at a hotel right next to the Historic Center of this city. The Castillet is the anchor piece for the historic center of Perpignan.

It is a well preserved fortress that was used as a prison. It is very well preserved as a museum and there was plenty to see inside with its displays and artifacts. Plus the view from the rooftop was fantastic. There are 142 steps to the top...A number I correctly counted on the way down...

The Castillet was a nice piece of well preserved history and is definitely worth a visit when in Perpignan.

A nice visit to spend a small hour or so, and get probably the best view over Perpignan in the city (if your not afraid of heights).
Not a whole lot to see in the museum but many chambers and rooms make for a fun visit with the kids. Make sure you don’t mind climbing medieval style spiral stairs...

Nice building, very famous in Perpignan. For a good view of the Castillet, you can also go to the rooftop of Galeries Lafayettes (just in front), if it is still open.

Beautiful fortification and the city gates. From the bridge there is a stunning view on to the Castillet. You must see.
