It appears that this small castle is being renovated as there is construction ongoing on one side of the building, for the time being the visitors are to climb a small staircase towards the top of the dungeon.
There the view on the city is attractive if you are not prone to vertigo.
Along the way there are mundane exhibitions on three floors.
Don't waste your time visiting the interior, the Castillet looks better seen from outside.

A nice visit to spend a small hour or so, and get probably the best view over Perpignan in the city (if your not afraid of heights).
Not a whole lot to see in the museum but many chambers and rooms make for a fun visit with the kids. Make sure you don’t mind climbing medieval style spiral stairs...

This a good place to walk through (and up) it only takes about 30 minutes. At the top there are great view over the old city and across the canal and into the new city All the signs were in French and Catalan. There seems to be a lot of great history here, but we could not really grasp it because of our lack of language skills. Costs a few euro per person, probably not worth it unless you understand French but I think absolutely would be if you do

Dating from the 14th century, the Castillet was the entrance to the city and was heavily fortified to resist incursions from the north. Following Louis XI's occupation of Roussillon, it became a state prison. Within various rooms there are displays of articles of historic significance while you will need to climb 142 steps to get to the top to view the panorama. As so often is the case in France, any information regarding the displays is in French only although you can obtain a small leaflet at the reception desk that provides information in English. At 2€ for entry, however, the paucity of information should not dissuade you from taking in the site.

I'd recommend visiting this monument because it is in the center of town and there are charming streets and cafe around it. You can also walk along a pretty canal near it. The monument itself is pretty, but you can't enter.

On our first ever visit to France and Perpignan we stayed at a hotel right next to the Historic Center of this city. The Castillet is the anchor piece for the historic center of Perpignan.

It is a well preserved fortress that was used as a prison. It is very well preserved as a museum and there was plenty to see inside with its displays and artifacts. Plus the view from the rooftop was fantastic. There are 142 steps to the top...A number I correctly counted on the way down...

The Castillet was a nice piece of well preserved history and is definitely worth a visit when in Perpignan.

Nice building, very famous in Perpignan. For a good view of the Castillet, you can also go to the rooftop of Galeries Lafayettes (just in front), if it is still open.
