The Tour Magne, i.e. the Great Tower, is the only tower left standing from the Roman city walls. The top of the tower of 140 steps provides a striking panoramic view of Nimes.

The hike up through the Jardin will get your heartbeat raised, but manageable. The ancient structure itself is worth the walk, imagine a building more than two thousand years old. The view from the top is spectacular, understandable why this was constructed as a guard...More

This Roman tower is not as well-preserved as the amphitheatre or Maison Carree, but is well worth visiting for the fantastic view of Nimes from the top, as long as you don't mind walking up and down the long spiral staircase!

This monument stands at the top of the city park and then there is a major walk up the tower. My knees certainly got a workout. It does close at lunch for about an hour. Not recommended for senior citizens or anyone with mobility issues.

We had a day in Nimes and chose to head here first while we were still fresh and could enjoy the uphill walk through the gardens, which are beautiful, and then the many steps up to the top of the tower itself. On our way...More

Yes it is uphill but it is worth it. The views are amazing and the interpretation board provides a useful overview of its history

You can see the Tour Magne from most places in Nîmes, set up high on the hill overlooking the city. The walk up isn’t for the faint hearted. We followed google maps and it took us up some of the steepest roads I’ve seen!!! Once...More

We visited on a really hot day so the walk from the centre, through the park and up to the top tower were really hard work! The view of the city from the top were wonderful, well worth the climb!

This monument lies to the north west of the town. We accessed it through the Jardin de la fontaine, climbing the stairs which are steep but the ground underfoot are manageable. It is a long climb approx 20min at a slow pace from the Jardin...More

Its nice history and many different functions are nicely displayed at the bottom of the tower. Views are not very rewarding but the monument is very interesting being linked to a Nostradamus prophecy. You can get the "Nimes Romaine" pass so the admission will be...More

An amazing and impressive Roman tower that was part of the Roman fortifications of the city of Nimes 2000 years ago. We went all the way up and could enjoy a fantastic view of the city. Great place to go!
