This is the largest open space in the Old City. Not necessarily pretty but full of life as there are so many cafes and restaurants here. Busy day and night, Good place to sit and watch the world go by.

Take the time to learn about local socialist Jean Jaures and visit his museum in Castres- you will see his name everywhere in this area. Nice typical French square with obligatory dogs, dusty gravel and trees - 'Cest typic'!

A beautiful square with terraces of bars and restaurants,, cafes, surrounded by high and wide maple trees, and various shops It is on the site of the former church Notre-Dame-des-Tables, beside a big department store for clothes and the History Museum of Montpellier.

All squares of Montpellier are different from each other. Esplanade Europe provides a beautiful perspective. But I really want to get out of there. Place de La comédie is a city center with a theater and breakdance in the evenings. People come here to check in. The little Place de La Canourgue is a cosy square. Here you can find if not privacy, then at least a possibility to think or talk quietly. And the Place Jean Jaurès is to hang out and drink wine in a noisy company. Or in the company of Jaurès himself, standing here in stone. Jaurès was born near Montpellier in Castries. He also loved noisy companies, In the University, where he taught, in the newspaper where he worked, in the National Assembly, where he was a Deputy from the socialists. By the way he was a socialist with hard principles not that the current ones. He became one of the few opposed military loans and against senseless war, for which he became the first victim of the World War I.…

You just walk around over here and you perceive the world of Montpelier, youthness, vitality, life and colors. Full of restaurants and bars to have a drink while you appreciate the life of this fantastic city.
