The design of this very modern building is quite striking and those who admire new French design should take note. I actually found it pleasing, although I did not want to spend a lot of time here.

It's City Hall! Perched at one end of Georges Freche Plaza, this black box is a portent of the new developments down the road from it. It is a break with the old stone and terra cotta buildings at the center of this ancient place. Police, office workers and receivers of municipal gifts all stroll through the plaza at some point in any weekday but the building never smiles. It seems to be an off-chute of a much larger brutal cyborgian cube in Paris' Heart of Defense sector. Day and night this monster just stands with flags waving and sun or moonlight glinting off its impenetrable skin. It's armor is almost reptilian! At its base is a small park with a water feature. Runners and lovers make good use of the seclusion that sits a few meters above the Lez River that runs from the mountains down to the Mediterranean and lets out in Palavas les Flots. The girth of this cube is sculpted on its shiny rear, rather than open like its Parisienne mother. So, looking at it from Bassin Jacques Coeur, just across the Lez, there appears a hollow where below is another body of water that connects the three. Hotel de Ville makes for quite a sight at dusk.

I know: you like it or not, but you can not be not impressed by it. I liked it by the way. 15 minute walk from Comedie.

You either love it or hate it. This is an imposing eco-block with 1,300 square metres of solar panels on the roof, a large pond underneath to moderate summer heat and what looks like clever window shading on the south side. It would be interesting to discover what it's like to work in. Easily accessible by tram in a new quarter of the city. Agreeable walks and cycleways along the river Lez.

The dark building looks like Darth Vador’s headquarters. Difficult find an uglier building in Montpellier. Strange that the city would choose a black cube…. Must have been one of these projects that was sold by an architect that was better at selling than designing.

BTW, the Marriott hotel next door has a much nicer design.

Worth a visit a visit for the architecture alone. I had never seen a building like this, very impressive. Montpellier has lots of interesting buildings and a great city to explore.

It's usual City Hall office.Black building looks terrible. If you are not resident of Montpelier you don't need to go there. Inside this building is less interesting.

Cool to see, didn't go inside. It is very well-known and talked about a lot in Montpellier. Can be seen from the river.

Starting with Bofill and Antigone Montpellier has been attracting top architects. The hotel de ville by Jean Nouvel is worth the trip.
And go to see the other side of the river lay on the back of the Hotel de Ville.
Port Marianne is visible completely --- place where we first saw "des villas sur le toits" --- roof top villa's with their own garden --- extraordinary
