This folly (pleasure house) was extended and beautifield between 1696 and 1730 by Etienne de Flaugergues, councillon to the revenue court of Montpellier. A unique three-storey staircaise with hanging key-stone vaulting of a rare elegance takes up a third of the building. Formal gardens lead to landscape gardens embellished by an orangery.

I could not see the castle itself as it cannot be visited in the mornings but its park is a beautiful place for a stroll in hot weather. I liked the herb garden especially and the name tags in front of some special species. Some wine tasting is also included in the ticket. It can be easily accessible also by... More

At what is now the very edge of Montpellier a castle was built in the seventeenth century. The current owner and inhabitant, a descendant from the famous Colbert, minister of finances at the time of King Louis the XIV also known as the Sun King, invites you to visit his estate, surrounded by a French garden, an English park and... We bought this tour as part of an excursion on a business trip. The description had me thinking we were going to a castle and to see the beautiful gardens. It is located right in the city and what was the castle was disappointing. To me it was a unattractive house. I didn't see any gardens but were let to... More

Maybe we were mis-sold this trip - we expected a tour of the chateau and gardens, but after a whistle-stop tour of a handful of rooms we were handed over to a guide for a walk around the bamboo trees then ushered into the wine tasting room for a lengthy presentation of their wines. Although well done, it was not... More

Spent a lovely morning in the gardens, had them all to myself apart from the owners charming grandchildren who were visitng and riding their bikes, very sweet; followed by lunch in the restaurant, where I had the most amazing melon veloute starter and ate sweetbreads for the first time! The staff were very nice too. The only thing is it... More

With a smal herb garden and a beautiful 'bamboo wood' Nice for half day out of the city, combined with lunch in the restaurant

The gardens are pretty and well maintained but it is quite small to what I thought it would be. There was a marque set up which was in the way of taking a good photo of the house which was annoying. Not sure I would say that this is a must do in Montpellier but if you have some spare... More

Excellent garden and wine tasting at a convenient distance from downtown Montpellier! Assessable by tram or by bus with an additional 20 min walk. We went on a rainy day and even then it was an excellent experience. The garden is surprisingly impressive, with trees of all different species from all over the world. The employee hosting the wine tasting... More

I visited with my wife as we read some positive reviews; there was nothing to see just an entry fee of 7 Euros a person for a walk in the backyard. The wine tasting was as disappointing, 3 wines to taste all in the same glass and not even some crumbs of bread…. There are so many good places in... More

From the warm welcome, to the interesting tour of the "folie" (chateau), to meeting the chatelaine, the whole experience was most enjoyable. The guide, Madeleine, was funny, informative, and personable. The "chateau" itself is lovely and has some unique architectural features. The gardens are beautiful. One can only imagine what the view was like before the highway, before the shopping... More
