I enjoyed the sheer beauty of the area around here. There's a green area and park and I jogged round the loop many times. You can see the aquaduct below. This is all on a hill so the view is worth a photo.

This was a beautiful area with the triumphal arch being the highlight, but there's also a park, other monuments, and, or course, amazing views. It really gives a great first impression to welcome visitors into Montpellier. We were there in July 2020 as cities are trying to work out how to welcome tourists among the Covid pandemic, so some areas were blocked off and they were routing people in directional paths. (However, it was pretty empty when we visited, so all unnecessary, on that day).

The garden and surrounding scenery are breathtaking especially under the sun. It's only a short walk from Montpellier town centre (Place de la Comedie etc.) so would recommend going there if you are around Montpellier. A must see in my view.

This is a lovely area on the edge of the historic centre. Spacious, clean, great views and monuments. Spoilt only by beggars with clipboards who insist that anyone who signs is agreeing to a donation. We have seen the same scam in manty places, notably Rome and Paris and find that the "talk to the hand" signal and a firm "non" works but we saw some people having a miserable time with them. I'm sure a bit of a plice presence would work wonders.

This whole area is being redeveloped. Montpellier is a very old town and it’s easy to walk to this arch from the main square. We also biked around here too.

Magnificent arch as a gateway into the historical district of Montpellier. Nice for a walk and a few photos. And then pop in to the many cafés for a rest from the sun!

Give yourself a bit of time to enjoy the park behind the monument. The road is busy infront so be careful crossing.

We accidentally found The Peyrou, (or 'The Royal Square') after dinner one night, going for a walk and taking a few wrong turns. It had been on our to-do list for the following day but I am so glad we found it at sunset - I have never seen one like this is my life! It sets over the city, you have the statues and park behind you, people are quite and just enjoy the space, doing their own thing. It isn't over-run or too busy, it's peaceful and stunning. The view is worth the walk, absolutely amazing!
