Fabulous open space full of magnificent buildings including the opera house. Lots of restaurants and open terraces where you can sit and enjoy a drink or meals. Street entertainers of quality at least during the season. A bustling area attracting both tourists and locals. Not to be missed!

This square is buzzing with life and has great street artists who add to the fun and the atmosphere. Safe, good fun and easily accessible. Well worth the visit.

We parked in the underground car park at Place de la Comedie, and it's a good central location. As you climb the stairs, you come out in to a beautiful square, surrounded by lovely buildings. There are a lot of restaurants in the square with outside seating areas for food and drinks (even McDonalds has an outside area, although I... More

Main square in the city centre. A must in Montpellier! Nice to walk around. The streets nearby are also worth walking to.

With bars restaurants and plenty of shopping this is such a neat place to spend a few hours, even more if you want to get amongst the bar scene. Would highly recommend spending some time here if you're in Montpellier.

This place is a must see in Montpellier. It is central and filled with lovely bars and restaurants. There are many places to eat in Montpellier which are cheaper and just off the main streets, though I would recommend this place to have a glass of wine and people watch. In the evening the buildings are lit up blue which... More

We stayed in rue de Claret,The bus was regular and took 10 minutes to the station (cost 1,60 euros but this included any tram journery within the hour) remember to validate your ticket in the machine on the buses/trams) Walking is do-able but at 35c a quick bus/tram ride helps. An expensive city for food and drinks, only the transport system... We spent a lovely morning just wandering around Montpellier. It's compact, charming and packs a lot of variety into a small amount of space from the broad, marbled boulevards and bustle of the place de la Comedie, bookended by the opera and filled with fountains, bars and cafes to the narrow, winding streets and grand hotels of the medieval old... If you like Brussels's Grand Plais and Leicester Square, you will like this place too - this is a bit of mixture of those two.
