The Jardin des Plantes is a lovely place to chill out particularly in the Spring or summer where the flowers are in bloom. Its peaceful most of the time but obviously gets quite busy in peak tourist season.

The botanical garden is free, but is disappointing on a number of counts. First, it is not well kept, with lots of weeds left to grow freely everywhere. Second, there are interesting looking greenhouses of cacti and succulents, but they are closed to the public...More

Quite a bit was closed, but the open bits were also in need of more work and TLC - as it belongs to the university how about incentivising volunteering. Extensively used - lots of people picnicing etc despite notices to the contrary

I love the Great Expectations' "Miss Haversham" style of the gardens... The peace and quiet in central Montpellier is soul-restoring... There is no better place for a quiet stroll, or afternoon spent propped against a tree reading or sketching...

Dark and sober in its wintry cloak the birds dared sing on the bright dawn before spring. Return to a garden when it bursts back into life. Well located and interesting, I will return

We went to the gardens, but all the greenhouses were clñosed, some parts we not accesable or unde repair. I think it was just not the right time to go....

I was a bit disappointed honestly.. it's not that pretty and very small. I would visit something else in Montpellier, lots of great monuments to choose from!

I went here one lunchtime to find somewhere to sit and eat my lunch. Wasn't expecting a lot but I was pleasantly surprised. Very pretty and you forget you're in a city!

In case you want a break from the busy city, the Botanical Garden, is a nice place to relax your mind. It is actually the oldest Botanical Garden in France, created by Professor Pierre Richer de Belleval in 1593 after an order from King Henri...More

I'm sure I saw a French couple with a little dog inside, but you should be able to email to ask.
