Beautiful garden with easy strolls. Pretty shaded as well, which helped in the midday sun. Worth the visit.

A tranquil calm place for a stroll on a sunny day. We visited in April to see an army of gardeners busy tidying and planting in readiness for the summer. The weedy chaos was being replaced and I'm sure a colourful spectacle will emerge in a few weeks.

Was unfortunately closed while around, but looked charming from the wall. Just next to Porte du Peyrou and cathedral.

Nice place to have a walk round considering it's free. However many of the areas are cornered off and a lot of places are over grown. Shame really as this could be a really nice place

We found this garden by chance. It has a fascinating story as a historic botanical garden which has seen better days. At first glance it seems overrun but is definitely worth going into. It has walks around and plaques on trees, lots of benches to sit and it is gradually being renovated. It is close to the Cathedral and Porte... More

The Jardin des plantes de Montpellier (4.5 hectares) is a historic botanical garden and arboretum located on Boulevard Henri IV. It was established in 1593 & is France's oldest botanical garden. It is maintained by the Université de Medecine Montpellier & is open afternoons daily (except Monday I think), & admission is free. However considering it's maintained by the Universite... More

We walked for quite while on a hot day to find this place but after glancing over the wall didn't even venture inside. It looked totally overgrown and uninteresting. Yes it may be a place for medicinal plants but don't expect an explosion of colour.!

If you are in Montpellier and feel like escaping from the crowds for a while, the Jardin des Plantes is a quiet and relaxing place to go. It is open during the day and is full of plants and pathways through them to different areas. Sadly though it could do with a bit of TLC as some parts are starting... More

This was obvioulsy once a beautiful garden but it appears to have suffered from neglect and underfunding which is a great shame as it could be a big atrraction. Having said that it was interesting and a cool break for walking in the shade from the heat of the city.
