Unique Chateau

Although it is in the process of being renovated/excavated for its past it still affords the visitor an opportunity to witness history and imagine. Also great views!

Not as well preserved as Fort Saint Elme, mainly big empty rooms but great views from the high walls

We went on a self guided tour which costs 4-8 €/person depending on age. We clearly looked old so we got in for 4€. It is a huge castle that has been well restored. Good information panels in English together with an information sheet. Easy to understand how the castle developed and look across the town to the other components... More

We took some time on our first morning in Collioure to visit some local landmarks. We did a self-guided tour of the Royal Castle. A good portion of the interior courtyard was undergoing excavation - providing an excellent opportunity to watch archeologists at work. Unfortunately, on the day we were there - no one was working the site. The castle... More

We had some great hours with our teenager sons at the Collioure town main castle. Ok prices , brochure guids with the history of the castle in several languages. Small souvernir shop. Really a great castle to visit. Many rooms, towers, caves an tunnels to see. Great views and easy acces from the main harbour. Love IT!

It's a must in Collioure, just near the port and the tourism office, a huge fort built and rebuilt 3 times, interesting history. You get a big size plastified paper explaining a bit the different building phases, not 100% easy to see, actually. The underground paths are impressive (and nicely fresh in summer). The view from the walls is beautiful,... More

This castle has fabulous views over the port of Collioure from every angle. The castle is in the process of being renovated and so parts of it were inaccessible which is a shame but I look forward to visiting again when we are in the area. I would have given this 4* except for the extremely rude lady on reception... More

There is not a great deal to see inside the Royal Castle. The best things about the building are the way it appears from outside and the views from the ramparts. All this is for 2 euros so it is worth the cost.

On the day we visited the salon was closed and so it was free to enter!! Having been told this at the very friendly reception desk, we thought there would be not much else to see, but we were so wrong! The Chateau has been really well conserved and repaired, totally in keeping with the building. Around every corner is... More

You can walk around the ramparts and get great views on the town. When we visited there was an excellent photography exhibition. The archeologists are working on the site and you can watch them work. The only thing which was disappointing was the scaffolding on the outside of the building, but obvioulsy they needed to do repairs.
