Unfortunately made the top late in the day with a rather tired 1 yr old. Staff were very welcoming. Tours are not in English so would benefit from self guided headsets in other languages. Will try and revisit when child more amendable. Looks like a worthwhile place to go.

We walked from Collioure, a little bit steep but manageable for most people. The view was great, but the hole walk was also very nice. It gave us first hand experience how it was to "travel" in ancient times. Can recomend this!

Atop Goat Mountain, a stiff ocean winds slashed at my face as I contemplated my perilous predicament. In a moment of terror, I realized that I had lost my rental car keys at gates of Le Fort Saint Elme on this windy summit. My traveling companion dubbed the great peak overlooking Port-Vendres as "Goat Mountain" because of the steep trek... More

Thank you for your comment. The Fort is closed only when the weather is bad ( strong wind or storm ). It's very rare. We always put the safety of our visitors. More

Walked from Collioure with my teen sons. Very enjoyable and the view was great. The fortress was a good experience; felt like we were on set for a Merlin episode.

Thank you for your comment. Big or small, when one enters the Fort Saint Elmo, it becomes a knight ... Do not forget to remove his armor before going down ... More

Interesting little castle on top of Collioure. Fantastic view over the Rousillon plain. Fine details and info inside the old walls. You can walk up from Collioure and/or Port Vendres. Use your car (a bit tricky to find the roads...) Take the little yellow tractor train and step off at Elme-

This is an interesting place. It's position on the hill overlooking Collioure is perfect. We took the petit train up to the fort and then walked back to Collioure via a sometimes quite steep track. The views from the fort are terrific and the interior of the building is interesting as it contains some armour and old weapons as well... More

You can drive up or if you just want the view the little train stops here for you to take photos. The exhibition in May was just being set up.

You can walk up to the fort from the town and I have. You have to like inclines lol. It's a magnificent building with lots to see inside and out. You can also take the little train from Collioure and get off at the fort for two minutes or visit the fort and then catch the next train.

Don't miss this - even if you just go for the view and don't care about the fort. We took the little train up and arranged to stay for an hour at the fort. Totally worth it. They even had a knight costume for my daughter.
