We followed the path up and down on a really hot day in August. Our seven year old handled it with no issues at all :) Once at the Fort we were greeted by two of the nicest tour guides I have ever met, one French and one Spanish. They explained that due to the high winds the viewing terrace... More

The fort is great for families or adults. You can take a small train (runs on roads) up and hike down. Beautiful views. Smaller kids are given knights costumes to wear during their visit with swords and shields--they had a blast!

My family of four visited Fort St Elme today as the Vermeille Art- Food - Music festival sounded lovely for adults and children alike. We paid 45 euros admission for absolutely minimal benefit. Art was 6 or 7 paintings, there were only a couple of food stands set up and no food being cooked at 18.30pm. Some music was playing... More

We have climbed from Collioure to the Fort St Elme by foot: 30 minutes walk with kids and really nice view on Collioure and the see. The visit of the Fort is interesting, presenting Mittle Age weapons and armors. The view from the fort on the see and surrounding is beautiful. Visit fee is low.

We walked from Collioure up to the castle, with two kids, and this was a 45 minute walk. So pretty easy to do. The castle was nice with some medieval museum like rooms. The view from the castle on the bay of Collioure really is great!

With children , it takes 45 minutes to set up and 20 down. The museum is designed for adults as for children. Thank you for your comment. We wish you a pleasant stay in the region. More

Take the train: do not walk up the hill! The train may look naff, but walking in the heat would be a killer. For me this was a fascinating introduction to a period of French/Spanish history about which I learned nothing at school in the UK. Also, there are excellent views over Collioure and the coast.

You will discover some of the hidden history of most of the people. It is heroic, terrible ... This is the story of the Fort More

We arrived by the tourist train from Collioure, well worth the fun ride, great views and a terrific well preserved fort full of old weapons, swords etc.BUT, don't walk back the goat track down the hill to Collioure unless you are quite mad and have excellent walking shoes.

To mount on foot from Collioure, it takes about 35 minutes and normal walking shoes. A nice ride before discovering the Fort. More

We took the trail up to the Fort which was not opened but the hike up from town was one of the better hikes we did. It rewards the intrepid whit outstanding vistas. Well worth the EFFORT.

Unfortunately made the top late in the day with a rather tired 1 yr old. Staff were very welcoming. Tours are not in English so would benefit from self guided headsets in other languages. Will try and revisit when child more amendable. Looks like a worthwhile place to go.

We walked from Collioure, a little bit steep but manageable for most people. The view was great, but the hole walk was also very nice. It gave us first hand experience how it was to "travel" in ancient times. Can recomend this!
