Despite it being mid August there were only a dozen people on the English Language tour which suprised us. The guide was a real star and not in a show off way. He was passionate in his description of this amazing City and he really wanted us to hear every word and as he drew us in we listened enthralled.... More

Yes it was hot and yes it was busy, but we loved it! Beautiful sites and views, we took a guided tour and throughly enjoyed it, incl my children who are 5 & 4 Stopped for lunch and a well needed ice cream in one of the many restaurants . We did pay to venture into the castle, lots and... More

Best to go in the morning/evening if you are going in summer as there is little shade! Great place to visit - lots of restaurants, little shops and also a great caricature artist on the way in!

Beautiful city, we can not wait to return without the kids and take in the citys beauty and explore all the side streets and Walls.

Fascinating but crowded in August. Evenings and Sunday's were better. Worth paying for a guided tour.

Even after a long, 12 hour, rail journey and a disappointing hotel Carcassonne is absolutely fabulous.

Wonderful historic town with lots to do and a varied offer of things to do, visit and eat. Cathedral and castle fascinating, and sitting in the square sipping a drink and people watching fun too!

Once you have climbed the hill to the castle, the views to be had are worthwhile. The city is alive with tourists, locals and shoppers. The food prices are reasonable and I noticed were in places cheaper than down by the river. In the peak of the summer it is hot, so you will need a drink, but there are... More

30+ years since I last visited, and I'm blown away even more by this place. The buildings, views, architecture and vistas are amazing. Yes, there are LOADS of tourist shops, but what impresses me is (a) how many offer quality goods and (b) how low the premium for being in a tourist trap is.... yes, things are more expensive, but... Amazing Medieval City and Castle. A lovely quaint town that no one should miss when visiting France. I loved it.
