Stunning location. A renovated medieval walled city. Fabulous all round views and a magnificent cathedral. More places to eat than you would ever need. After a cycling tour from Atlantic to the Med, we had dinner at this citadel, at La Marquette restaurant. The traditional dish of Cassoulet was unbelievable: tasty, beyond our expectations. With a good bottle of local... More

We were really looking forward to going to this walled city, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. A bit disappointing really.

Visited La Cite three times and absolutely loved it. Had read about Carcassonne in the Kate Mosse books and couldn't wait to visit. The castle was really interesting and full of history with fabulous views. The cite has many cobbled streets with lots of shops and restaurants. Will probably visit again.

Free entry, although you pay for parking outside. What a fantastic place to visit and see how the old town existed within the city walls. The place was teeming with visitors, and all the shops, cafes & restaurants were open for business. You get a real feeling of what it would have been like living there centuries ago. The day... Have wanted to visit Carcassonne for many years since I read Kate Mosse's book Labrynth. I was not disappointed. It was literally a walk through history. It looks amazing from the outside and inside doesn't disappoint. Fantastic place.

we were totally blown away by just how beautiful this place is. From the outside it looks enchanting, but once inside its a bustling little town full of shops, bars and restaurants. Well worth taking in the ramparts with the audio guide, although stops 1 to 3 can be a bit tricky to find. Food is good and plentiful, if... More

A wonderful walled city, much of which has been restored. A bit difficult walking over rough areas and cobblestones but the architecture and history make the visit worthwhile.

This City oozes a medieval atmosphere. . Pretty small steets . Great variety of shops . The balance between commercialism and history is just about right. An inetresting Cathedral and of course the castle is well worth paying to look round

We visited Carcassonne the medical part recently with friends. Carcassonne, a hilltop town in southern France’s Languedoc area, is famous for its medieval citadel, La Cité, with numerous watchtowers and double-walled fortifications. The first walls were built in Gallo-Roman times, with major additions made in the 13th and 14th centuries. Château Comtal, a 12th-century castle within the Cité, offers archaeological... More

Great place to visit, but I suspect will be very busy at sometimes. Perhaps a midweek trip would be better.
