This is a wonder city to visit and very unique. It's small and quite manageable on foot. Take at least one guided tour if you don't like reading up before you arrive.

Carcassone is just a crazy, huge medieval fortress. It's the second time we went there. It can get hot there by day, but then you can take a tour... More

Lovely daytrip by car or boat, lovely niche restaurants a must to visit Château Comtal, a 12th-century castle within the Cité, offers archaeological exhibits and a tour of the inner ramparts.

Despite it being mid August there were only a dozen people on the English Language tour which suprised us. The guide was a real star and not in a show off way. He was passionate in his description of this amazing City and he really wanted us to hear every word and as he drew us in we listened enthralled.... More

Best to go in the morning/evening if you are going in summer as there is little shade! Great place to visit - lots of restaurants, little shops and also a great caricature artist on the way in!

Beautiful city, we can not wait to return without the kids and take in the citys beauty and explore all the side streets and Walls.

Fascinating but crowded in August. Evenings and Sunday's were better. Worth paying for a guided tour.

Even after a long, 12 hour, rail journey and a disappointing hotel Carcassonne is absolutely fabulous.
