Tip top experience at museum in Carcassonne
Visited Centre Culturel De La Memoire Combattante De L’Aude in Carcassonne. A true gem of a museum in Rue Trivalle. Absolutely packed with information and exhibits including Carcassonne in World War II and the Resistance there. Curator/guide called David was accommodating, full of knowledge, very friendly and had time to talk to us personally and answer questions. So much to see and learn. Created in 1998 as a result of several war veterans associations. Entrance is free but donations welcomed. Provides an important narrative on Carcassonne’s recent history and a complete surprise to find it - it’s at 102 Rue Trivalle 11000 Carcassonne. Recommended. Well worth a visit. Thank you David. Museum open Mon to Fri 9am - 12pm 2pm -6pm. Closed at the weekend.

    A very interesting tour
I was delighted to stumble across this museum on holiday as I love military history. Despite most of the information only being in French, we really enjoyed looking around as David, the curator, gave us an enthusiastic personal tour (which I believe he does for any visitors who would like one). The museum is full of interesting objects and uniforms etc, as well as providing some detail on Carcassonne in WW2.

Well worth a visit. Very interesting.
Well worth a visit. I popped in just as it was closing. David, the Proprietor welcomed me in. It's a very interesting museum and I wish I had had more time. David is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There's lots of interesting exhibits. David speaks good English but he let me practice my awful French. It was a treat to visit.

    History & kindness combined.
This museum is INCREDIBLE! An absolute MUST SEE! The curator couldn't be nicer, more knowledgeable or more passionate. He was also extremely kind to our son who uses a wheelchair. At least 10 out of 10 for David & his EXCEPTIONAL museum. Dolores & family, Ireland.

Military History of WW2 and more
My best experience in Carcassonne - so much to see. The best thing about the museum is the originality of the exhibits. They tell their own story in a really moving and informative way. David was wonderful, and showed such great enthusiasm in chatting with us about the museum, and his inspiring generations of brave family members. We have so much to be thankful for in our free society, and let’s hope we of the 21st century don’t let those heroic men and women down.

    Very special experience
This place is something special. Incredible range of historic artefacts from two world wars including the French resistance and the efforts of the French military. Some amazing art from a camp in Ukraine. David was a very special guy who knew so much about the sacrifices made by the French and many other countries to protect our freedom. Thank-you.

David greeted us as we entered this free museum and proceeded to show us around, explaining all about the uniforms and memorabilia he has amassed over the years and how people donated the items. He even has pictures and stories of his own father and grandfather, which was very touching. We learned a lot from his stories which were very informative and interesting. There is a guest book and option to leave a donation, which I would encourage you to do to keep this little museum going.

My French girlfriend and I had been exploring the city. We stumbled across the museum, and were immediately intrigued. The museum was supposed to close, however David in his infinite kindness not only allowed us to enter and stay a little longer, but gave us our very own guided tour, which ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. His knowledge on the exhibitions and history were inspiring, to the point where I felt compelled to read more when we returned to the UK.
I would whole-heartedly recommend as a little hidden jewel. Not to be missed!

Military enthusiasts will truly enjoy this incredible gem just 3 blocks from the entrance to the ancient Citadel in Carcassonne. Admission is Free and the staff is very friendly.

I was especially impressed with the English-speaking Veteran who was so happy to entertain a couple of fellow Soldiers. His personal artifacts from his family were a great touch to a collection that spanned from Napoleon to as recent as Afghanistan.

Museum is on two floors and well organized with some items I had never seen before.

Make sure you sign the guest register, and if you’re as impressed as I was, you can leave a donation.

Davide, the Guide, was just superb. He knew so much, and was obviously proud of the Museum and the history it portrayed.
His knowledge of the English language was exceptional and I learned a great deal in the 2 hours we were there.
It was amazing to see such an impressive range of genuine French uniforms and artifacts, all proudly displayed.
The details regarding the Patriots during WW2 was very interesting and quite sad in many respects, and it is vital that this museum and others like it survive to inform future generations.
I would heartily recommend this museum to any visitor to the area. Considering the entry is free of charge I hope everyone is gracious enough to leave a generous donation . Davide and the others involved with this museum should be applauded and congratulated.

We came across this place on a previous trip but didn't get the chance to visit. this time however we made sure we were there during opening hours and we weren't disappointed
David the curator speaks good English and was the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable curator we've ever met.
The story behind the local exhibits was fascinating and despite the fact it was past closing time David made sure we didn't leave until everything relevant to the museum had been explained. This exhibit is free of charge but it goes without saying a donation is much appreciated and well deserved. David was sorry he didn't have much in the way of British artifacts to show us and wished he has a British 'Tommy' uniform so if anyone can oblige I'm sure it would make a welcome addition to this amazing collection.

We happened across this museum and were warmly welcomed and guided through. Our guide was clearly knowledgable and passionate about the collection. He answered our questions and we learned a lot from him. The collection is across two rooms but spans a large amount of French military history with personal stories and objects rarely seen in other museums. Recommend a visit if you are into military history or are up for learning about it

Such excellent staff, shout out to Bosman who was very informative about the collection and why it was so precious. Talking with them made our day and writing this review is the first thing we have done since leaving the museum. We encourage people to go.

It was free so we stuck our heads in and were immediately welcomed by the curator whose lunch we’d interrupted. Our school French is rusty and he spoke little English but we managed to get by on the personal tour given to us. The small museum is full of shop mannequins posing in military uniforms plus lots of other militaria.

Museum discovered by chance, we were amazed, an extensive and very interesting collection of objects which reveals unsuspected treasures. The same goes for the uniform collection. Our guide David is a man of great knowledge, his enthusiasm guided us throughout our fascinating visit, many anecdotes also complement David's explanations. We had an unforgettable time and a little 7 year old boy was able to discover part of the history. A place to absolutely see. Thanks again to David.
