There is something very special for me about walking through this entrance - hard to call it a door- I cannot ever pass through without touch the wall and thinking what it looked like when bygone knights were racing through on their horses.

Amazing castle and fortifications. We had a tour guide who brought to life the history of La Cite. We spent a day walking the ramparts and seeing how the defenses would have overcome any attempt at taking the castle.

I can understand why the concentric circles divided the community. Very clever art, but this is a UNESCO site, not a canvas. Worth looking at, but less agile ones may prefer an entrance with less steps.

But then, I'm a septuagenarian! But it was great to arrive at this portal a nd rest while enjoying the splendour of the art work on the castle walls

This is the “back door” to La Cité, the medieval fortress city. This side is often used in movies because there are no wires showing

With the recent excellent artwork by Swiss artist Felice Varini - this is the best viewpoint! If you take a few steps back - you can get all the yellow paint lined up and enjoy this concentric and eccentric masterpiece!

You get really nice views of Carcassonne and the medieval city. The concentric art work currently on display can be viewed from here and you see all the circles.

It doesn't matter where you go in Carcassonne. The views are uniformly great and photogenic. The back door, as it were, is just as good as the front.
