Remarkable that this is free to enter. The people on the information desk are so helpful and the little map very informative. Bring your binoculars for enhanced viewing. It was autumn so beds were dry, no waders. Could see for miles from the wooden watchtower, a great view of the old town walls and towers.

This nature reserve is excellent for a walk for everyone, not just birdwatchers, and gives great views of the walls etc. It's either a reasonable walk or a short drive from the centre of town and easy to park.
On arrival there is a very good visitor centre which upstairs has an excellent display explaining many aspects of Aigues-Mortes history and geography - why it was built, why it silted up, etc. And all the displays are in perfect English as well as French.
Then the walk round the reserve is about a mile - well signposted with more display boards. There are also great viewing platforms and boardwalks which children would love as well as adults and we had plenty of great views of flamingoes.
(For the more serious birdwatchers it's difficult to know how good it is - we were there on a very windy March afternoon, and didn't see much else apart from one avocet. However water levels were quite high and I'd expect more waders normally and the low trees and bushes looked fine for warblers, etc later in the year.
The same organisation runs the reserve at Scamandre not too far away which is excellent. )

You can park here. You are greeted by a woman who loves her job and shares with pleasure. She is as accommodating as the site is beautifully cared for. Start with the exhibition to better understand where you will be walking... and return after the walk to better understand the geology of the site. Alone, couples, family - this is a wonderful place to be close to Nature.

If you arrive in the morning, it is strongly advised to do this walk before visiting the medieval city of Aigues-Mortes: you will understand the natural environment of the city (without which you will miss the point of why this city is what it is), have the best light, will not find closed doors because of the lunch time break and will enjoy view on the city walls from the distance, unchanged as it has been for 8 centuries.

If wildlife is boring to you, it's nevertheless a nice peaceful and refreshing 40' walk (assuming you just walk and don't mak your a pause to enjoy the views).

Our family enjoyed this walk very much. We went mainly for the flamingoes, but we saw some other birds and also otters. It’ a pleasant, peaceful site, it wasn’t crowded at all when we visited. The lady at the desk was very friendly, informative and helpful. The park is very well maintained.
