Aigues-Mortes is a small place but it's a gem of French medieval architecture and history. By not going to the Tourist Information Office first I missed a couple of sites that I was unaware of but would not have wanted to omit on my visit. I did see some important town landmarks and was happy that I did, but toward the end of my visit (and my allotted time in this area), I decided to go into the Tourist Office and look around. It is well stocked with local information and the staff are nice. When it was pointed out to me that there were a couple of ancient chapels and statues that would be good to visit, I realized my error in not having begun my stroll through town here.

As tourism centers can be an excellent stop to choose what you want to see, where you want to eat... the people here are friendly and helpful. And the information is plentiful.

Visited Aigues-Mortes yesterday, what an interesting place. You are struck by the walls of the structure, the towers and ramparts. Inside these walls is a bustling inhabited town. Rows of houses with beautiful window boxes. Lots of lovely shops, I bought some cotton and linen clothes which were just stunning. It is the end of the season so prices are low, great time to buy. There are 5 star hotels and many restaurants to have lunch. Remember that some places, not all, will close at 2pm for a couple of hours and then reopen. It is definitely a fun place to visit and most unique. Good to read up on the place before going, helps you understand what the place was,

A lovely mediaeval town with complete original walls. You can walk along the walls for €8 and this would be interesting. Sadly we visited in mid-August when the rest of Europe decided to be there as well. It was very hot and with such a huge crowd we curtailed our visit. Note if you have fair colouring the town walls are completely open to the sun which in August can be very strong. I suspect a good place to visit in the off-season.

Popped into the tourism office to obtain some information on a half day tour in the Camargue. Young lady we spoke to went out of her way to contact each tour provider on our behalf. Unfortunately all were booked!

That just about says it all, the staff were very helpful, but the English version guidebook was excellent with a map, walking tour and explanatory notes of the places you visit.
