We have just returned from a 6 day cruise with another couple, on the all inclusive hotel barge Emma St Patrick. We were treated royally by Rene (captain of the ship), LIz (superb chef), Rosy (tour guide/history major!), and Eve (charming hostess). The route took us from Beziers to Carcassonne. It was a leisurely but fascinating trip, with lots of... More

Unlike British canals, of which we have travelled many, our first vist to french canals was a bit of an eye opener. British boats all have septic tanks which require pumping out when full, french boats merely discharge the stuff, untreated, into the canal. And by god you can smell it in some places. With all of the EU environmental... More

This is the third canal we have cruised and each one is slightly different. We chose to go on a luxury canal barge, the Esperance. That was 5 star all the way and we highly recommend it. The canal passes through the vast vinyards of the Languedoc and is scenic in most of it's expanse. Because of it's location we... More

While visiting Carcassonne we had a canal trip on the Canal du Midi. The Canal du Midi is a 241 km long canal in Southern France. It was originally named the Canal royal en Languedoc but the French revolutionaries renamed it to Canal du Midi in 1789. Our trip lasted around 2 hours, in boards the multi lingual guide kept... We visited the canal for my future son in laws stag weekend on a canal boat provided by Le Boat . I was a little concerned that 10 men on a canal boat might be a little tight but I needn't have worried. The boat was ver spacious, clean and had everything you could need. We hired the BBQ and... This time the boat was dirty not like before when it was spotless.looking at the rest of the boats it appeared that they were all dirty so my wife and I spent a whole week cleaning because it was not fit to use. Next time I will use a different company as we found loads of them. Shame on you... More

A wonderful cruise from Port Cassafieres westward. Beautiful countryside in the Languadoc, lots of quaint towns, medieval and Roman sites. BUT WATCH OUT FOR PICK POCKETS AT THE NARBONNE TRAIN STATION! Two young girls got my wallet.

Hired a Penichette P 1180fb for 7 days from Locoboat at Negra. There were 6 of us on the trip and while at the start you think boat might be a bit small, actually it is the perfect size. Our trip was 7 day return trip, we made our way down to Carcassone, staying at Castelnaudary one night for power... More

This was planned as a trip dreamed of for a long time. It did not disappoint. My wife and I both agree that this should have been the final part of our France, England trip. We are from Australia. It is unlikely anything else on the trip can be comparable with the week of excellent food and wine provided by... More
