    Parterre d’Eau Versailles
Parterre is an ornamental garden with paths between the beds. Water parterre is a terrace between the Chateau and the gardens. It has two huge rectangular ponds. In 1674 Louis XIV ordered 24 statues to grace the terrace, they comprised the Four Seasons, the Four Continents, the Four Elements, the Four Humors of Man, the Four Poems and the Four Hours of the Day. In 1685 the plans were changed and the statues were spread out in other gardens. The two large rectangular pools reflect the sun's rays and light up the outside wall of the Hall of Mirrors. They are decorated with figures in bronze representing rivers and their tributaries, the Seine and the Marne, the Garonne and the Dordogne, the Loire and the Loiret and the Rhone and the Saône.

    Amazing garden area
Walked through the garden before the palace tour and it was breath taking. The sculptures, the multiple fountains was fascinating. It would have been neat to be around during this time to see these fountains in all their glory. The fountains were not on but I bet they would look and sound neat during the day and night. It’s truly incredible what was built that long ago.

We went twice to the gardens, once when the fountains weren't working (it's free entry then) and once to see the musical fountains (there is then an entrance price), and both times were fantastic, but if you are there at the weekend would recommend paying the extra entrance fee to see the fountains - they are on 11-12 and again 3.30-5.00, Sat and Sun, with various fountains also displaying to music at different times of day. Pick up a fountains map as you go through the gardens ticket office, useful to plan your walk and it also lists which fountains have music and the timings.
Be prepared - the gardens cover a lot of ground! The map you can pick up includes a one hour and two hour option for walking round, and this is useful guidance as it would be easy to get lost and miss something spectacular.
If you're there on a Monday the Palace itself will be closed, but there is free access to the gardens every week day. In fact we did our second garden visit on the Monday and the gardens were much quieter as obviously most of the crowds come to do both the Palace and gardens on the same day - if you have time, consider spreading your visit over two days so it isn't a rush to get round everything.

Verdict- Recommended
Time- Less than 5 mins (for this part only)
Fees: Included as part of the palace tour ticket

This will be part of your chateau de Versailles tour, and will be in front of you once you finish the main palace tour and enter in to the gardens.

Due to the fact that only in the morning or at 3:30 in the afternoon all fountains are running simultaneously. We couldn't wait any longer due to our ride back at 1:30 pm another two hours, so we were not able to see them all running.

Tried to take a wide angle shot of this and it still didn't cover it. Huge is to say one thing, but it's really beautiful.

there are days when the fountains have a musical show but we were not there for that but still found them beautiful with the intricate design features and the hundreds of sculptures. one of the first things you see when you are leaving the Chateau and are heading to the gardens.

The gardens of the palace are simply beautiful and this view especially down towards the lake at the bottom but I wish this fountain had been running! It was disappointing not to see it. I felt it let the gardens down! Surely they could at least run this prominent fountain!!

Louis XIV had the best engineers figure out how to get water up to the top and back down to the fountains. Because there wasn't that much water available, they made sure that when he walked through the gardens, the fountains went on as he passed them; otherwise they were off! Fun facts.
