A bit of trivia for you. Marie Antoinette was conscious about the cost of building a chateau during the revolutionary days, so she opted to buy an already pre-made temple from a duchess to keep the cost down. Of course, she received criticism for being cheap, and simultaneously, criticism for spending money. However it is, 400 years later, it still stands and it is magnificent. The statue of cupid in the middle is well endowed.

The Temple of Love is a small, but beautiful circular temple in the park of the Palace of Versailles. You can access it via a narrow footpath. There is no charge to enter it or view it once you have paid your admission fee the enter the gardens, which is a separate fee from the one you pay in order to see the actual Palace of Versailles. My friend and I went there on a Sunday as that is when the fountains "come to life". Be forewarned that if you do go on a Sunday, and wish to take a picture of the Temple of Love, you will have many tourists in the picture. Tourists were packed in here like sardines all trying to pose next to the statue. We were here in 2008.

When you buy the ticket that includes Marie Antoinette's palace and trianon gardens, there will be a set of places to visit; grand trianon, petit trianon, la ferme, .. and temple of love. Temple of love is a peaceful quiet place to relax at, with nice architecture, gardens, flowers, canals. Enjoy it.

As you stroll through the gardens you come upon this beautiful structure. It fits in with landscape of the flowing river, trees, swans and fragrant Lilac bushes. It works in this tranquil setting.

This has been my dream to visit this place for years and years. I am obsessed with Marie Antoinette and her Petit Trianon and time at Versailles. This was almost like a pilgrimage to me.

Not only did I get to walk in the footsteps of Marie, but my boyfriend proposed to me here! Best day of my life.

Beautiful little building that should be visited. The Gardens, in my opinion, are at least as interesting as the Palace itself. Get a map… find the garden places that seem interesting. But make sure you see the Temple. Beautiful.

If you have purchased an entry fee for the Petit Trianon (Marie Antoinette's small palace) then you will find the Temple of Love. It is located in the extensive gardens which are part of the Petit Trianon (and not to be confused with the Grand Trianon). If you want to skip the Chateau and visit the Petit Trianon you can buy a separate entry for 10 euros, otherwise the combined areas are 18 euros. The Temple is a great photo opportunity and is just one of many photo opportunities in the gardens which surround the Petit Trianon including the Grotto, Belvedere, farm and the many Swiss style houses which were added in the 1700s.

Part of the gardens of the Petit Trianon, on a pathway toward the Hamlet.
Cute for a romantic picture for a couple.
