after the crowds of the Chateau and the Gardens it was nice to take a leisurely stroll to the quieter area of the Petit Trianon. A much smaller more peaceful area with adjoining gardens including an English garden. Much more natural beauty.

We thought it was going to give us a tour around the massive areas. It only went around the perimeter to go to the various cafes on the right side of the gardens, I almost pulled my back out the ride was so bumpy and rough. Rent a golf cart instead

For a poor country boy, Le Petit Trianon is a palace. But Louis XIV wasn't a poor country boy. It was a nice place for him to escape the hubub of the chateau.

The smaller of the two Trianons on the grounds of Versailles, completed in 1768, it provided Louis XV and Madame du Barry privacy away from the main palace. Then later it became more closely associated with Marie-Antoinette as an escape from the rigors of life in the court of Louis XVI. The tour of this home is less crowded and more peaceful than the main Palace, but you still feel the aristocracy that abounded here. The grounds are magnificently landscaped with fountains, buildings, flowers and trees.

We especially enjoyed seeing this private retreat that the Queen enjoyed with her friends and ladies in waiting. It is actually cozy in contrast to the massive palace in the distance. The gardens are beautiful and a bit more wild in comparison to the formality of the main palace. It is easy to see why she enjoyed spending a great deal of time here. It is also relaxing after a morning spent walking the main palace. We took the train down and then walked back after touring. There are restrooms and a small refreshment stand in the area. It's about 1.5 miles from the main palace. Tickets for the train are available in the main palace garden.

Le Petit Trianon was lovely! Far fewer crowds than Versailles palace, it was easy to navigate and there was plenty of space to stop and enjoy the beauty. I could really envision Marie Antoinette spending time there and hosting her friends. I like that the renovations are only partially completed and we could see the "bones" of the structure as well as the finished areas.

Very close to the Grand Trianon (aka the Big cottage). Note it doesn't open until noon.Right next to the hamlet and temple of love.

A bit away from the crowded corridors of the main place with cool stone ground floor rooms, and lovely walks in the gardens, the visits currently enhanced by an architectural photography exhibition. If you have time try to visit on a diffent day to seeing the main palace to do justice to both without getting too tired.

I really loved the Petit Trianon! It was much more manageable than Versailles jammed packed with the extra large tour groups. It is not very big and as such easier to see. There were not that many people when we went so I was able to take my time in each room. It is beautifully decorated and you get a real sense of the personal style and person of Marie Antionette. The grounds are def. worth seeing. The hamlet and farm have been restored and are so pretty- like a fairy tale. The French garden and French Pavilion are lovely. The Theater is glassed off and dimly lit so it was hard to make out the sides, but what I saw looked grand! There is a separate entrance to the Petit Trianon which we took. It is a good 30 minute walk from the train station, but it is flat and a good surface that leads through the town of Versailles. You enter through a side gate
( The Queen's Gate) and continue to walk through the grounds of Versailles. Entering this way helps you avoid the masses of people in line and on the grounds of Versailles. It is nice to see the Petit Trianon and spend ample time on the grounds which have many nice features. I can see why this was an escape for Marie Antionette. It is a very picturesque spot.

After a morning visit to Versailles, we visited the "Petit Trianon" of Marie Antoinette. Truly I was not sure if I was interested, but went along with our group anyway. The day was a bit chilly and a bit of rain fell intermittently which made us a bit less inclined to go, but we were very happy we did!
It was originally built for Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV, but expanded under the reign of Louis XVI for his wife, Marie Antoinette. She found the rigours of palace life a bit overwhelming and sought out a place of peace and relaxation. This beautiful estate with formal gardens, a grand canal with fountains and lakes and even a working farm is absolutely lovely. It was place for to "escape the formality" of court life ..a place that she believed encompassed the" back to nature" approach to learning for her children. Absolutely a must in any visit to Versailles.

I bought the Paris Pass which gave us entrance to the Petit Trianon. We really used the pass often and it meant we didn’t have to wait in line at the sites we visited.
