Louis XIV initiated the construction of the complex in 1670, as a home and hospital for aged and unwell veterans and it has become the most notable museum of French military history. My husband and I had visited the Army Museum during our very first...More

Visited here with teenage son - it is such a calm place in the middle of a busy city. We sat for a while just enjoying the peace and quiet and looking at the architecture of this lovely place. It is not all glitzy and...More

Compared to other cathedrals this is quite stark - perhaps appropriately so as a soldier's cathedral. Its worth visiting only as a part of completing the Invalidaes complex.

Very large church in the land of Napoleon. Worth a quick visit but not one of Paris' most beautiful or interesting churches.

When you visit Napoleon's tomb at des Invalides, at one point you see into the Cathedral from the main axis. You can then visit the cathedral as you move through the complex. I have to admit I still don't understand why it is a cathedral...More

The Dômes of the Invalides is unique because it conceals two churches. King Louis the XIV wanted to have a church that the soldiers could visit but also a church that he could visit without being disturbed by anyone else, a private part in the...More

Outside the cathedral is stunning but a bit disappointment inside. Of course there's great history of France and part of the other museums in area.

This cathedral is within the hotel des invalides and was built in the 17th century. The golden dome is a particular focal point with its shimmering golden colour that shines in the sunlight. Well worth a visit.
