I have a friend with a passion for Paris and jazz, so I wanted to bring her something jazz-related from her favorite city. When I saw this small shop close to Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, I immediately went in. The place was crammed with new and used CDs and lots of old LPs. Four customers looking through the merchandise almost filled the shop’s limited space. Recorded jazz music played in the background.
As I know nothing about my friend’s taste in jazz, I had no idea where to begin to look in this treasure trouve. The lone employee (perhaps the owner) came to my rescue. He asked many questions to bring focus to my search, and made a recommendation. I appreciated his friendly approach, fluency in English, extensive knowledge and emphasis on customer service. I left Crocojazz with a CD unavailable in the United States but popular in Paris. My experience proved to be so positive here that I expect to return to this shop on future stays in the city.

Gilles, the man running the shop, was one of the most affable and electric people in Paris! His English is impeccable and his knowledge of Jazz seemingly encyclopedic. After seeing my Andrew Hill selection (Dance with Death) he recommended two stellar LPs of the avant garde variety that I had never seen Stateside: Joe Harriott (Abstract) and Don Rendell (Roaring'), both of which perfectly hit their mark. Visiting the store was a highlight of our weeklong trip to Paris and should be an essential destination for any self-respecting Jazz devotee.

A great jazz collection with a very helpful and knowledgeable store manager. Wide ranging collection of the new and the old with labels from all over. Be prepared to walk out with an armful. A collector can get lost for hours so plan accdordingly.
