We rented a beautiful apartment in the 6th Arrondisement through VRBO.
Claudine, the host, is such a sweetheart! The apartment is on the 3rd floor and was exactly as advertised. She was there to greet us, answer our questions, and make sure we were comfortable. The apartment is close to many restaurants, a metro stop and several bus stops. We spent 4 nights there and got to see many of the city's attractions and neighborhoods. Claudine is highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again!

The 6th Arrondissement is a lovely area of Paris. We wandered through its streets several times and just got lost in the beauty before us. There are many cafes, restaurants, boutiques and a myriad of other shops. We especially loved the Jardin du Luxembourg park where we took a walk or two.

This Left Bank neighborhood is loaded with history, some of it religious. It has evolved into a totally gentrified area with very high rents. Even the small old hotels have become high end. Lots of antique stores here, lots of books stores. Many good restaurants.

One of the best locations to stay in Paris is the 6ieme arr It’s 10 -15 min. walk from many museums, shopping (rue de Bac, Bon Marché, la grande épicerie, chez Papa Jazz club, to name a few). Safe area at night. I have rented an apartment in this area since the 1990’s. Easy access to metro.

I acme here to go to a museum, and on my walk to and fro, I was impressed, as always by the elegance. The area is a bit too invaded by luxury goods stores and the other services reflect money as well. Still very pretty.

Lots of small independent shops selling high quality goods by people who are passionate about their products. Cafes and restaurants a plenty at all budget levels. There are also many excellent boutique hotels that dont expect you to be a billionaire to book a room.

From the famous writers who sat in cafes and wrote (think Camus or Hemingway) and those famous cafes still exist (Cafe Flore or les Deux Magots) good but still filled with many tourists...to the Abbey St. Germain des Pres or the large Jardin du Luxemburg...the 6th is a wanderer and romantic's place to be.
Gorgeous architecture abounds, fantastic streets to wander, great places to eat and sleep.
This is the intellectual heart of paris. Take an hour or so to walk Blvd St. Germain and then another hour or more to wander the smaller streets between it and the Seine.
If you really pay attention, you will find a plaque on the outer wall of 56 Rue Jacob. Here the United States truly because the USA. It was here that John Jay, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin signed the Treaty of Paris officially ending the Revolutionary War.

Walking the 6th err... you feel Paris. You feel the art and history. The narrow streets like Rue Jacob, the small cafes and great food. I always stay in the 6th and will likely always stay there. It is as old and fresh as you can get. It is not as flash and glitzy as some, but it is Paris... an ancient city with so much culture and history that you cannot help but feel it!

We ventured over the river once more, to the left bank to the 6th Arr, St Germain. We had a lunch (mussels) special at Leon (as always, less expensive in Paris than in Brussels), checked out the St Germain Christmas market and the church of St Germain and revisited one of Paris’s secret streets - La Cour du Commerce-Saint-Andre. We tootled to the covered market of St Germain - and were ecstatic to find it backs on to a Marks & Spencers - which meant we could top up our fruit mince pie supplies. They also had a great flower selection so we bought a bunch of 10 mauve/pink roses (that ended up lasting 2 weeks) - superb value for €7.50. This became a common occurrence for us every few days (as a result of the train strike), during our 2 month stay in Paris we would find ourselves in the 6th enjoying everything the area has to offer.
Visit a boulangerie, enjoy there amazing fresh baguette, married up with ham and cheese from Marche St Germain. Enjoying a typical Parisian picnic in the Gardens Luxembourg, or on a park bench in front of the Church of St Sulpice, enjoying the ambience of the church a fountain..
Enjoying a meander, (within Gardens Luxembourg),having a good look around enjoying statue-mania which was well in evidence. We also seem to be, albeit accidentally, on the trail of the Statue of Liberty. We had our 3rd sighting here at the gardens. Remembering not to miss the the Medici gardens, absolutely stunning, perfect for a typical Parisian picnic.
Things to do list:
Saint Sulpice Church, this is a must for Dan Brown/Da Vinci code fans, how could you not?
The Centaur - a cracking piece of art/statue with a tiny Statue of Liberty protruding from his chest - you’d miss it if you didn’t know it was there.
Fontaine Saint-Michel, monumental fountain, popular meeting place, for city tours.
Boulevard Saint-Germain, shopping
Cour du Commerce-Saint-André, old cobble stone passage,
Marche Raspail, organic market
Rue de Seine, enjoying the interior design festival that has occupied the 6th. always something different going on, Buskers frequent this street and area on weekends.

We very much enjoyed our visit to Paris and the location of the 6th Arron. The streets were clean and also featured the truly Paris architecture and feel. All of the people we met were great and we felt safe and secure. I speak very basic French, this seemed to really open doors with the local people who appreciated the effort. This is a great place that is central to all the amazing things that Paris offers the visitor.
