This is one of Haussmann's piercings into the heart of the medieval city. He created this fairly wide Rue that helps traffic circulation. Still some historic buildings along the way plus a lot of Haussmanian apartments. I am often here as it is in the center of so much.

This relatively short street runs from Boulevard de Sebastopol on the east to Place des Victoires on the west. The thoroughfare borders the 2nd arrondissement on the north and the 1st arrondissement on the south. I have found it to be a street busy with traffic, which is typical for Central Paris.
I consider La Tour Jean Sans Peur, an early 15th-century restored tower, to be the street's only true attraction. Open to the public for an admission fee, the tower beckoned to us on a recent Paris visit and we explored its interior via a stunning spiral stone staircase. Otherwise, shops, which are generally geared to those with mid-level incomes, and places to eat, offering everything from burgers to French cuisine, are the major contributions to the scene.
Some far more interesting destinations exist nearby, such as the Palais Royale, Centre Pompidou, Eglise Saint Eustache and Les Halles with its myriad shops and cinema, often showing films in their original languages. The popular market street, rue Montorguell, runs into rue Etienne Marcel.
Aside from the tower (metro stop Etienne Marcel, line 4), I see no reason for visitors to make a special trip to this street.

Running from Place des Victoires to Boulevard de Sebastopol, it also crosses one of our fave streets Rue Montorgueil, (food street), we particularly like this street as it is home to tour saint jean sans peur, the last vestige of the Hôtel de Bourgogne, a medieval structure built in the 1500’s.

This is a major crosstown street passing through the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Lots of places to eat along the way and several important Metro stations. Lots to look at on a slow stroll, old Paris. Some rood construction.

Unusual medieval tower that can be climbed and I believe there
is a guide to narrate the history, where there used to be a castle
of quite importance. If you are a French history buff, you might
want to make a stop..even if just to take a photo....

We came back here many times on our recent visit as the major Rue pierces the central Right Bank. One can find many great restaurants and cafes along here.

Central Paris is here. Markets and restaurants, shops, lots of public transit. And Tour Jean Sans Peur, exquisite.

One can find many fashion brands in that street. It is no longer the home of high end stores, but one can still find a few interesting brands such as Marthe & François Girbaud.
