This church anchors le Marais. origins back to the seventh Century. The church as it exists today was built during the rein of Louis XIII.
Its roots are Jesuit so it is a must see for those with Jesuit roots. The art work is beautiful and numerous.

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is a nice church situated along Rue Saint Antoine in the Marais Quarter. Designed by Jesuit architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand (1627-41), this is a good attraction to visit if you like seeing historic churches. Opening hours 8am to 8pm daily.

The exterior is an interesting blend of Italian Baroque, French Gothic with Dutch ornamentation from that era. It takes considerable influence from nearby Church of Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais.

The interior is quite attractive as well. Laid out French crucifix plan, the large nave includes high ceiling and is lined with broad columns. The centre altar, apse and inner dome are decorative. Sculptures, paintings, a simple pulpit and other features adorn the walls and floors of the church, providing interesting things to se within Eglise Saint-Paul Saint-Louis during your visit.

In the end, we liked our visit Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis. Unfortunately it was rather late in the day, resulting in a rather dark scene within the church. Next time around, we hope to see the interior with more natural light.

The Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is a beautiful baroque church built between 1627 and 1641 by the Jesuits with the financial assistance of Louis XIII (1601-1643). She takes over from St. Louis chapel built in 1580 by Cardinal Charles de Bourbon, founder of the professed house of the Jesuits in Paris. Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is the first Jesuit church in the capital. It is also the first church that fully emancipated from the Gothic tradition.
According to the will of Ignatius Loyola, the Jesuits had become the spiritual directors of the kings of France. Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis gate brand: Étienne Martellange to realize the plans and conducted the work; François Derand continues his work (façade and dome); Charles Turmel takes care of interior decoration. All three are members of the Society of Jesus. In 1762, when Louis XV hunting Jesuits, the church is entrusted to religious neighborhood.
During the Revolution, the church becomes deposit books and Temple of Reason. She went to worship with the Concordat of 1801. During the Second Empire, the architect Victor Baltar (1805-1874) restored the facade and redeveloping the choir.
Finally, note that in this church rang the sermons of famous preachers like Bossuet (1627-1704) or the Jesuit Father Louis Bourdaloue (1632-1704). Madame de Sevigne was an assiduous listener.

Because there is so much to see and do in Paris, jewels like this church are often overlooked. It sits on the Rue St Antoine, which was the main road of Paris in the 15-1600's. The road was easily the widest in Paris, and the space right in front of the church was used for jousting.
One of the French Kings died here in a joust, when his Captain of the Guard accidentally lanced him in the eye.
The interior of the Church is highly decorated in the Baroque style; the church was modelled on the Gesu church in Rome. In the far corner high above a side chapel is a valued Delacroix painting, with a beautiful sculpture of Mary inside the chapel. From here it is only a short walk to the Marais and the Place des Vosges.

So I headed to a church I hadn't been to in Paris - St. Paul St. Louis, 7 passage Saint-Paul / 99 rue Saint-Antoine 75004. The plan of the church is inspired by the Church of the Gesù in Rome, built by Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola in 1560. The church is very bright and still quite decorated, although much of the furniture disappeared during the revolution. In fact, there is a memorial plaque to the church's abbey who was killed in the revolution. If this church were in any city but Paris, it would be world-famous - its a real beauty.

Located within the Marais on a very busy road, stands this architecturally beautiful church, built in the Baroque style, during the 1600’s. We liked it as it looks different to the other churches of its era, as it turns out, its architecture was the first to breakaway from the gothic style.

We spent nine days of lodging in this area and passed this structure a number of roles each and every day. As stated- it is impressive and stands out- talk and stately and with many sculptures on its exterior (as everything else in Paris).

Anyway- we didn’t go inside even though I looked inside from street level.

We didn’t see many people going inside: even on Sunday morning.

What I did see were two homeless people sleeping on the portico during the rain.

I’ll find a few photos and add them here- to enhance your understanding of the site.

We were walking around the 4ème and came across the church. Definitely worth walking into. The original was built in the 600s.

A great site in a fantastic location in a relaxed and fun area of Paris. We had the luck to go to the Algerian Orchestra event of the 22nd and it was fantastic, Always worth a look in and a place to enjoy the history and the events they do.
