This small island is the perfect spot to sit and just enjoy being in Paris. Weather permitting of course. The weather during my visit in July was brilliant. Warm evenings with spectacular sunsets and hot dry days. There are some cool, shaded areas at the...More

Pictures from the tip of the park. Chilled place, huge tree with cool shade, the tip is good for picnic at the right timings. Not crowded but to get the tip spot you have to awkwardly wait for the occupants you find there to finish...More

This little park is at the end of the Ile de la Cite and offers some splendid views. Come and bring your picnic lunch. Very romantic. When the river is high, it gets flooded.

It’s tiny speck of grass on the western tip of Ile de la Cité. There is a huge tree, under which one can sit comfortably and watch the city go about its business.

The location is perfect for a rendez-vous, small and intimate, but it needs LOTS of attention. Open garbage cans allowing wasps flying everywhere, " flower beds " bare and full of discarded cigarettes tips, no grass even. The city of Paris needs to attend to...More

There is nothing better than getting a snack, taking it to Square du Vert-Galant and sitting next to the water to soak in the view. A tiny piece of land adjacent to Pont Neuf, it is a very romantic place!

This tiny tip of Pont Neuf may be the perfect spot to sit with some wine and cheese and watch the life on the Seine from both banks, all while sitting under the fairy-like branches of a weeping willow. A great place to rest for...More

Small area on the tip of the Ile de la Cite on the River Seine in Paris. The square is a small area that overlooks the River and the Pont Neuf and can be an area of calmness.

Square du Vert-Galant is a tiny garden and grassed area at the bottom of Pont Neuf with views across to the city and the original lock bridge. It’s a nice little square, no one was there when we visited so it was nice and quiet,...More

You are probably here for Pont Neuf and the lovers locks, but, this Square is a perfect backdrop to the setting, and worth making your way down to explore.

Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very
heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité,
sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of
Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the
site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held
before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic
Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the
Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island,

Square du Vert-Galant and Tour Eiffel (9 Replies)
A young man I know is planning to pop the question in this beautiful city and wants to do it, as all do, in an uncrowded place; however, it's essential to the proposal that it be within view of the Eiffel Tower. Am I correct in remembering one can't see the tower well (or at all) from the tip of the Square du Vert-Galant? It's a quiet, lovely place, but I'm thinking there would be no seeing of twinkle lights. Another question: Is this area open to the public after dark? Thank you!

The square is reached via the Pont Neuf. One bridge over, going away from Notre Dame, is the Pont des Arts, a pedestrian bridge. You can see about 3/4 of the tower from there and lately it's been pretty quiet out there at or after dusk. Might be a good alternative. Pjk
