Clearly the maritime museum in Paris is not rich and large as the museums of Greenwich, Lisbon or even Genova, nevertheless if you like maritime history it merits a visit. Out of the temporary expositions (which often are also partially "accessible" on-line), the main attractions in the museum are the decoration of the Galée "La Royal" (Louis XIV), the Canot built for Napoleon, a lot of beautiful models (ships from XVI to XX centuries), including a couple of "instruction models" made for familiarising young officials with ship rigging and structures. There is also the "Trophée Jule Verne": it would not add too much to your knowledge of ships and maritime customs, but it is a beautiful object. In addition to that there are objects you would find on-board of a ship in different periods, from middle age to current days.
The library is not a secundary part of the museum: out of reproduction of a variety of maritime stuff, you would find a wide selection of books (including beautiful comics).

Located in Trocadero Square, the French Maritime Museum features Napoleon's barge, terrific maritime paintings including those of French ports done by Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), models of modern French warships including the nuclear aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, and exhibits on French shipping history.
