this huge fountain is at one of the entry points into the Latin Quarter. It is in a small plaza that is dwarfed by it. The sculpture is of the Angel Michael in his fight against evil. very busy intersection so it's hard to get a good photo.

This beautiful fountain is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter of Paris. It was a historical monument since 1926. It serves as an ornament for the façade of a building. It was built in 1860 and is about 26 meters high. An arch stands out as the main structure, bronze statues, two dragons spitting water and four Corinthian columns. We were able to admire it from the tourist bus while we toured the city.

Monumental fountain located at the intersection of boulevard Saint-Michel and square Saint-André-des-Arts on the Left Bank. This fountain dedicated to the archangel Michael is part of the city's rehabilitation works carried out by Baron Haussmann under Emperor Napoleon III. To embellish the fountain there are bronze statues representing the archangel in the center and two dragons on the sides.

This is a monumental fountain fitted into a building facade at Place Saint-Michel on the Left Bank side of the Seine. It was designed by architect Gabriel Davioud (1860) and based upon the concept of the Acqua Felice fountain (Rome).
The fountain measures 26 metres in height and features a bronze of St. Michel with raised sword, flanked by red marble Corinthian columns, bronzes of lion headed dragons with water spouting from their mouths into a basin below. It is an interesting composition and worth a few minutes to enjoy when sightseeing in the area.

Beautiful monumental fountain dedicated to the archangel Michael located between boulevard Saint-Michel and square Saint-André-des-Arts (Rive Gauche). Note the bronze statues representing the archangel in the center and two dragons on the sides. The lively Latin Quarter is a few steps away.

This was built as a monument by Haussmann to mark a perspective. It does break up the straight line of the north-south axis, but that is OK as it is a landmark and lovely. Very popular with students as a meeting place and it begins the long route of Boulevard Saint Michel.

Just as you leave Ile de la Cite and march up Blvd. St. Michel, you find this very large fountain that was built as a part of the Haussmann urban renewal. Now a very popular meeting place for young people, especially the many students who are living and studying in this area.

It's a nice fountain and worth going to see. There are small shops with food, pastry, and other shopping within a few blocks of the fountain. There aren't a lot of places near the fountain to sit and hang out.

We woke up starving and wanted something more than pastries. We landed at Le Fontaine St. Michel. The waiter was very accommodating. His smile and desire to please helped us overcome his lack of English.
The American breakfast is everything one could hope for in Paris. Croissants, baguette, bacon/ham and eggs. Also, incredible French butter, juice and one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. (Heads up: coffee almost ALWAYS come with milk in it unless you ask for none).
We would highly recommend Fountaine and may go back ourselves tomorrow.

When does it stop running for the winter and when does it start in spring?
Written September 6, 2017
