The area
Neighborhood: Ile de la Cité / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
How to get there
  • Pont Neuf • 3 min walk
  • Cité • 5 min walk

Lovely Spot
Apr 2020
This is one of the loveliest parts of town. I like to sit on a bench and admire the harmony of the architecture, well at least for 2 sides of the triangle. The third was marred by renewal during the 19th Century when the court buildings went up. But the rest was saved from a very early period of town planning Famous people have lived here. Simone Signoret? Yves Montand?

A public area
Oct 2019
Place Dauphine is a public Square just off Pont Neuf. In fact this square is not square at all, but it is triangular in shape! Its name refers to the Dauphin of France and future Louis XIII, who was the young son of King Henry IV. Worth a stop if you are passing by this area.

I Like to Admire the Harmony
Oct 2019
I come here each time I am in Paris to sit on a bench in the center and admire the harmony of the urban design. On 2 sides of the triangle are lovely townhouses, most of a harmonious design. The third side was wiped out in 19th Century urban renewal, too bad. Still a lot of beauty is here and famous people have lived here. Simone Signoret?

One of my favourites in Paris
Mar 2020
This quiet and very small Place , to me, sums up Paris at its most elegant, residential best.Tree filled, hushed, gorgeous flats/buildings, nothing overly ornate. The lovely Pont Neuf nearby.Perfect urban living though blink and you are through it.

Triangular square
Jan 2020
Located on Ile de la Cite, is this public square surrounded by beautiful buildings, plenty of seating, however no grass, being winter and all the trees had no leaves, a little stark for my likening, however, the surrounds give it extra points.

Renaissance Square
Oct 2019
One of Paris' most serene and romantic places, this square features harmonious architecture. Built during the Renaissance and somewhat altered, it's still gorgeous. Come and sit on a bench on a sunny day and let your heart sing.

A Quiet Oasis
Oct 2019 • Solo
I had seen this commented on by other people on TripAdvisor so as I was in the neighbourhood I stopped by. I was initially a bit disappointed as I walked into the place as it appeared rather basic.

I decided to sit at one of the restaurants on the square for lunch and became aware of how peaceful it was. This is only a short distance from the bustle of Notre Dam yet it's a world away. There is very little traffic coming through the place and also not too many pedestrians.

If you want to have a few minutes of peace on a sunny afternoon or a nice lunch, if you're nearby, consider coming here.

Exquisite Architecture
Apr 2019
I love to come to this square (it's actually a triangle) on Ile de la Cite, sit on a bench and drink in the harmonious architecture.from many centuries ago. Still preserved except for one side where the 19th Century intervened, Famous people have lived here. Yves Montand?

Definitely not what we expected to see in Paris
Dec 2018 • Family
I must confess - we were on our way to a pet shop, to buy a kitten, while on holiday in Paris (it's a long story) but also NOT what we were expecting - was to see Camels in Paris, in the middle of Winter! We followed the camels to Place Dauphine where there was an incredible 'living' nativity - complete with sheep, dogs, shepherds etc! It was pretty incredible & a beautiful little piece of Paris, with interesting history. I imagine even without the living nativity it would be a beautiful place to be.
