The area
Address
Neighborhood: Montparnasse
The namesake tower of Montparnasse dominates over the landscape but the fun part is the throbbing life that goes on below it. Bright lights, busy cinemas, brasseries and diners encompass hidden museums and parks to entertain the masses. Long avenues lead away from the tower to take you to unsuspecting places and historical monuments and treasures. In between lie adorable ivy-covered houses with beams and small gardens to match. Just a short metro ride away from the center of Paris this neighborhood has something for every hour of the day.

With so many other better parks, don’t waste your time!

Besides having a complete lack of wayfinding signage, this park and surroundings are just not maintained at the same level of other parks in the area. We went there because we have a two year old and our family guide book recommended it. This park was probably lovely when built but the children’s equipment is run down (the pirate ship-supposedly the big draw- is not only dilapidated but there is a big plywood panel screwed over the slide so you can’t use it.). My husband said the entire place looked like the scene in a apocalypse movie.

On top of the trains!! Montparnasse, Paris
Apr 2019 • Family
A quiet green park with benches and art on the rooftop of the Montparnasse Train-station. Lift outside building on right side looking at the Montparnasse Tower.
There were also a sports centre and some small museums there, but we did not visit them.
Had a picnic lunch and rest there. Lovely surprise find.

Cute children park
Mar 2019 • Family
Very hidden and a little run down but it’s still very cute. The gardens are usually pretty in the summer and the children park is fun, even more so if you like sand. If you are in the area it’s worth stopping by here.

Elevated Garden

Up above the Montparnasse train station is this rather large garden. Most tourists do not know it exists. Pretty enough, but not one of Paris' best parks. Free.

You have to work to find this one

This park is on the roof of the Gare Montparnasse (train station). There are really no signs guiding the way, you just have to know it's there or stumble across it. Since it was still winter during our visit they had "no walking on the grass" signs. There are tennis courts, places to sit to have a picnic and a large weather station in the middle. It is surrounded by large buildings and I'm sure it's a lovely place to come have lunch after being cooped up in an office.

We visited the Jardin Atlantique Park today on our way to the Wall for Peace and unfortunately we couldn’t walk down the middle of it because it was roped off. We did walk around the outside though which was nice.

It seems to be more of a kids playground area than anything else, so not really a tourist attraction.

Hidden garden
Jul 2017 • Couples
You only get here when you find it on a map or, like me, saw the garden from the rooftop of the montparnasse tower... The garden is nowhere indicated so you have to find your way: go into the montparnasse train station and on the left side of the train tracks there is a stair going up to the garden (yes the garden is on top of the train station and surrounded by buildings, but still a nice place for a walk or picnic)

Right above Gare Montparnasse station, there lies this beautiful garden or you can say this green waiting area, full of flower beds, sitting area, a tennis court and play area for kids. While we waited for our train to arrive, our children enjoyed playing around in the garden.

Unbelievable

It is hard to believe that a train station lies under this wonderful park.
There are full grown trees making this an oasis in the city.
A must to visit.

Another oasis of quiet and beauty

Who would believe it! Right above the busy station, a spacious park, surrounded by greenery and bright flower-beds, including lavender-beds, in bloom right now with a well-kept green lawn for relaxing on, benches all around. Also available are tennis courts and it is right next to the Museum to Jean Mouli and the resistance.
