Lavinia at 3, boulevard de la Madeleine in Paris, is a spectacular wine shop, carrying a huge assortment of Bordeaux's, including the legendary 1945 'First Growths'. For those of you who really enjoy a great glass of wine, you can spend hours there traversing their isles and taking in all they have to offer. I love this place!

I had such a wonderful visit to Lavinia six years ago that I was excited to go back. At that time I found several people eager to discuss the wine business and show off their large collection. I'm a regional manager for a wine importer in the US so this is a usually a nice combo of work and fun,... More

We had a relatively good experience last time at this restaurant. Went back again and were disappointed in both food and service. Food was bland this time and service was rushed. The waiter was impatient & rude - rushing us to order quickly and grab our menu away. The restaurant was not busy at the time. Did not feel the... More

I've recently become more interested in wine, after a couple of decades of casual consumption. A trip to Italy last Summer ignited the passion inside me. I had just decided to set-up a storage cellar and bought an affordable used Eurocave on eBay, when I learned I'd be traveling to Paris a few days later for work. And the Euro... More

Came across this huge wine and spirits shop when walking around Paris on an August bank holiday. Very glad to find this place! They have around 50 bottles of wine available for wine tasting - we bought a 20 EUR card which you can spend in the automatic wine tasting dispensers. Perfect if you're not a fan of organised wine... Great selection to buy and try as well through numerous by the glass offers. The restaurant upstairs offers a nice setting for a quiet evening.

The most interesting and fascinating wine shop you can imagine, especially the "wine cave" behind sliding glass doors in the basement is a must for all wine freaks. The wine selection is the broadest I've ever seen. The restaurant/food bar is also higly recommendable with its wine and food pairing options. There is a large liqour department there as well.

Shame on me for ranking Lavinia "average." It is sleek, shiny and spacious, above all it is stylishly trendy; a modern wine and spirits shop that also sells small selections of glassware and decanters, cork screws+and wine resource books. Everything with alcohol is available. An excellent selection of Spirits on the top floor, wine on the ground and lower level+a... More

We stumbled onto Lavinia by accident on our last day in Paris. Magnificent looking wine shop - with a huge selection of french and international wines, plus a range of fortified wines and hard liquor. We found a bottle to try and moved upstairs to the restaurant. Even though it was close to 2pm and we were probably the last... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
