A great show

Lovely dancers and a great spectacle, although the place is crowded and they try to squeeze the tables in.

Not much left of the bohemian atmosphere this area had: besides the Moulin Rouge the area has a lot of sexshops and does not look that clean. But since it is the separation between nice Montmartre and the cool bo-bo area, just accept crossing it.

Pigalle had a reputation as the red light area of 19thC Paris, but is slowly being cleaned up, largely by rising rents. Now it's full of trendy boutiques, bars and cafes, as well as the famous Moulin Rouge. Still plenty of adult attractions at night on the Blvd de Clichy.

Too noisy and polluted. Rather go from Blanche up the rue Lepic to the Abbesses area which is nicer.

I read the comments and still decided to go check it out on a Saturday night (around 2am). Bad idea. Keep in mind all of this happened within about 15-20 minutes and i had just smoked a joint so perhaps i looked more high/vulnerable but: 1) approached buy a local on the street for a cig, since i was smoking.... Definitely sleezy but not as bad as the early 1990's. Seems harmless enough during the daylight hours. Went there twice, walking the length of Boulevard de Clinchy and some of the side streets but was quite tame and a bit of a yawn, we intend going back for a Moulin Rouge show but will not spend any more time in... Well it is famous because this is where Parisians used to meet prostitutes; and because of the Moulin Rouge. I think there is only the Moulin Rouge left, and a lot of traffic. Boring, really.

Just a word or warning, please be careful when you are using the underground in Pigalle. My husband found someone had their hand in his back pocket when we were walking down the stairs to get the Metro. Thankfully he had his wits about him and realised what was happening immediately, he made a lot of noise and shouted at... More
