I saw many people here mixing this place with the famous Invalides. It is NOT that.
The Ecole Militaire is a huge bldg complex close to the Eiffel Tower, across the lawn of the Champ de Mars.
It's a military school whose most famous graduate was Napoleon. The architecture is truly impressive decorated with Corinthian columns and statues.

The Ecole Militaire is a remarkable military museum, housed at the Invalides, that may not make your list when in Paris. The city has so many world-class museums and galleries! It wasn't on ours. Fortunately, we stumbled upon it during our visit in February. It has an outstanding collection of weaponry, uniforms and armor, and it has a very moving installation on the Jewish experience in France during WW11. There were quite a few children and teenagers at the museum and they seemed to be enjoying it very much. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit.

On our way from the Eiffel Tower to the Champs Elysees we saw this magnificent building with a huge square in front of it.

Ecole Militaire (military academy) is still in active service so I don't think you can visit the compound other than once a year (journée du patrimoine). However, the front facade of the complex, that faces the Eiffel Tower, is well worth a visit (and it's free). Its imposing structure and 18th century decoration compete with the very numerous bullet holes to attract the viewers' eyes. The bullet holes come from the liberation of Paris where some German units made a last stand here even though the German commander had declared Paris an open city to save it from destruction.

From the 2nd floor balcony I overlooked the center parade ground and thought of the millions of men who had paraded here - with their different weapons and in their different uniforms.
Behind me was room after room displaying dozens of battles - their heroes, garb and killing instruments. General de Gaulle has his own special display.
You see, one thinks 'funny' thoughts in such a location.
Today's soldiers in their Jungle Greens and their bullet proof vests contrast markedly with previous armies - some in their very, tall, hats, knee high boots and their highly colored jackets.
Most of these men in their day just stood in line and hoped not to be killed while they reloaded their long rifles - or marched slowly into the 'teeth' of firing cannons.
Is there any place in France that tells its history than De L'Ecole Militaire? From :- Joan of Arc - the 100 years war - Saint Bartholemy's Day - WW 1, WW 2 - Dien Bien Phu - etc. It's all told here.
Thank goodness now the "Fighting Season' of Louis X1V is behind us. When with the coming of every Spring, off everyone went to war to win honor for themselves and France.
I think is is more important for everyone to visit this establishment than the Louvre or Versailles. But that's only me.

This is by far one of the best museum in Paris if you are looking for something other than art. We stopped by this museum to kill an hour before lunch, we ended up being here four hours instead! This museum is loaded with military artifacts from the beginning of civilization to modern warfare. The beautiful shining knights of armor, to the tiniest of pistols, and the largest of canons, I was awed by them all. This is a must see.

This is the impressive building you see when walking down the Parc du Champs de Mars from the Eiffel Tower. An enormous active military site so security is very evident, as my few pics show. I certainly could not gain access. Superb view back to the Tower. Do walk to the Hotel des Invalides nearby, you can't miss the gold dome, a fascinating attraction.

Musee and general public access is limited unless there was more and we missed it somehow.

Located downtown with easy access to Metro lines and bus service.

Displays appeared dated and not often refreshed or altered for appeal but a decent stop for anyone interested in military academia.

L'Ecole Militaire is a great place to have defense meetings in Paris. The buildings have kept their historical architecture, but many have been completely renovated inside providing a very modern and comfortable meeting experience.
