Neighborhood: Bastille / Oberkampf
Bastille and Oberkampf are lively parts of town made for entertainment. During the day rows of unassuming bars welcome customers for a bite or a drink, but it’s at night this area really comes to life. Students and young professionals fill the busy bars around Bastille and Oberkampf. At Place de la Bastille, crowds flock to the Opéra Bastille in the evening and groups wait for coveted tickets during the day. Towards Republique, skateboarders practice their tricks while others chill out at the square. If you’re looking for late-night revelry, this is your neighborhood.

Authentically French, Enjoyable Performance
Feb 2020
We enjoyed the Cirque d'Hiver immensely. The show is a bit campy, but in the best way - it is very charming. The show featured acrobats, strongmen, clowns/comediens, dancers, performing poodles, cats and other animals, and a live band. The quality of the performances was very good.

The performance is entirely in French and I suspect we were the only non-French people in the audience. However, we did not have trouble understanding what was happening. Much of the audience included children under 10 years old who were having good time - we enjoyed the show as adults.

It is a theater in the round. Seats are cramped. I recommend seats in the first few rows closest to the ring. We attended the 5pm showing on Sunday and it was not crowded.

Fitness with an F
Jan 2020
A short week in Paris and I decided to take my son to the Winter Bouglione Circus (Défi Show) after watching an interview on French TV.
Circus has changed and animals are not ridiculed or exploited anymore in some circus around the world. I liked the Bouglione comments and philosophy on how a modern circus has to evolve and respect animals. Still, too many places around the world exploit animals and treat them so poorly. Elephants commit suicide, dolphins die of anxiety and/or of claustrophobia, lions kill their abusive trainers.... At the Winter Circus men and women took center stage and their performances were absolutely amazing. They represented the human body in its incredible beauty. Athletes, entertainers, dancers, skilled women and men who have spent hours and hours training to perfection. I was amazed at their skills, their strength and their thirst for adrenaline. Why risking so much for entertainment? What pushes them to risk their life every single show? How many injuries do they try to hide? How many perform in pain? The human body is amazing.
Apart from that fitness display, we had 3 shows with animals: silly poodles, ridiculous cats and boring camels or dromedaries ( how many humps???). Forget about them. They were the weakest point and they should be replaced.
The lighting was fabulous. The orchestra was wonderful. The place is amazing.
Few things on the negative side, though: the seats are minuscule and there is NO space for your legs to fit in between your seat and the seat in from of you!! (and I am a petite size!!!!) Choose wisely if you are tall or of bigger corpulence.
The usher was very aggressive and authoritative. She practically forced us to give her a tip in order to get seated !!! A bit of a blackmail!! She said she only gets paid with tips!??? True??? We calculated that if you give her $2 minimum, she ends up with a LOT of money every show....not a bad job after all..... she had the technique to extort money from each client.
The show is for all ages. I loved it. My son loved it. I felt happy for the whole duration of the show. Amazing athletes. Highly recommended.

Amazing Experience, Wonderful Show
Dec 2018 • Family
This is by far the best circus we have ever been to, all of the performances were completely on point, the band were fantastic and really add to the the atmosphere.
The elephants were so majestic, I have never been so close to the action, the seating was well arranged and we were second row from the front, it wasn't necessary to be that close but it certainly added to the experience.
The clown was also very funny, the whole performance was in French as you would expect, but please don't in any way let that put you off, the performances break all language barriers, it is a spectacular show, I would not hesitate in returning again the next time that we are in Paris.

One of the best things to do in Paris
Jan 2019 • Family
This show was one of the best shows of any kind I’ve ever seen. It’s two hours of pure entertainment, watching highly skilled magicians, entertainers, acrobats and others perform for you.

The live band was also a highlight of the show. I truly cannot speak highly enough of this circus. It was absolutely outstanding.

Excellent show and circus
Jan 2019 • Friends
This indoor Circus venue has been in operation by the same family since the 1850's, hosted the Emperor and many others. Excellent show, elephants, acrobats, clowns and great live band. Seating is tight and toilets are very old school. Worth the price. Circus in Europe is considered one of the fine arts like opera, and it shows.

Tight seating, but the cirque d'hiver is wonderful
Dec 2018 • Family
We have been here now for the second time. The circus is beautiful, all the details and the view itself is just wonderful.
But the program was as the time before, spectacular. We love to go. If we would live closer by, we would go there every year!!!

Just love it!

Nice to see a circus but not really for 3 year oldchildren
Nov 2018 • Family
We were really excited to be going to his circus and were sure that our 3 year old would enjoy it. However , even though my wife and I enjoyed it, our so was not really interested in the acts . I noticed other young kids in the audience not really interested in the acts too so it was not only my son, possibly more could be done for kids. I don't think the clowns were too funny either . The exciting and captivating acts were the trapeze and the elephants acts . The circus was also too hot .

Would not reccomend
Oct 2018 • Family
Poor. An expensive circus producing mostly terrible acts. The trapeze acts were good, yet the comedy was dry and would only be enjoyed by the youngest of viewers. The horses were dier and I didn’t come to this circus to watch a bird failing to sit on a dog. Furthermore, the steward charged us a €5 tip for showing us 5m to our seats. DISGUSTED.

Afternoon of fun
Mar 2018 • Couples
What an amazing experience. Our first time seeing a circus and it did not disappoint. We got the cheap seats on the back row which were only 10Euros each. The legroom and space to stand (and even dance) and the view was amazing! The variety of the acts were good, with animals, acrobats, comedy and dance. Would recommend a visit. Its left-field but worth it!

Perfect afternoon
Jan 2018 • Solo
The setting is beautiful, the decor is traditional ...it is the perfect way to have a break and end up in a different world so don’ twait to buy your tickets! At the beginning of the game, lions and Tigers open the show and captivate all the spectators. The show lasted over 2 hours and there was the perfect mix of magic, comedy, acrobatics, audience participation and more. The music is all live. It is really a true value for your money.

The Bouglione family is one of the most illustrious circus families in France. Some of its members are owners of the Paris Winter Circus show room since 1934, where the oldest of its two companies.
