About
Get ready to rub shoulders with the locals at one of Paris’ oldest covered food markets. While the Moroccan stand is the most popular, a diverse range of cuisines is on offer, including French, Libyan, and Japanese. There’s something for everyone—pick one and dine in, or take away a selection and enjoy it at the nearby park. The bustling market is open on most days of the week from early morning to mid-afternoon, making it a perfect stop for breakfast or lunch. Pick up fresh produce and artisanal products like cheese and wine, or continue your gastronomical adventure with a food tour. – Tripadvisor

We visited one of the food stands and were very disappointed with the overpriced menu. The place itself is, as expected, simple and rustic, the dishes very small and the prices very inflated, way out of proportion. We won’t return for sure.

With a variety of food stands around the perimeter. This market was much smaller than I imagined. And we went the week between Christmas and New Years and a lot of the sands were closed thru January 3rd so keep that in mind when traveling.

This market has become my go-to place when visiting Paris. The middle eastern place has great shawarmas and falafel. But this visit we discovered the Butcher who grills up steaks on the spot. With accompanying grilled veggies served on a board with fleur de sel sprinkled on top and a nice bottle of red, this was one of our best lunches in all of Paris! Next time we’re in Paris, we’re definitely coming back for another steak!

Food court which has little to do with a traditional Parisian market but rather a range of varied food stands. Big flow, big pressure and sometimes offers at excessive prices.
Okay, but it's still nice.

This is primarily a food court. I went to get produce. Don’t go for that. Very few shops that sell unprepared products. There are decent shops elsewhere in the neighborhood for produce, meat, bread, pasties—and I will return to the area for those businesses-but the covered market was a waste of time. I really wish reviews would be accurate. Setting expectations above what the place can deliver is bad for business.

I wanted to visit this market located in the heart of the Marais, first of all for its history and also, for the advertising that has recently been given on social networks. I was really disappointed because it's more of a food feria than a food market. The passages sometimes become very narrow and difficult to access because so many people come there, between local bobos and those from all over the world, plus tourists eager to make an Insta video, the place loses all its charm. I wanted to eat there (at miam miam) but no way because it was impossible to order. Finally, I decided to try Lebanese and it was a bad idea. No need to go in, in any case, there is nothing special.

This is Paris's oldest food market and it was quite unimpressive. We got there at around 4 pm on a Saturday, so I'm not sure if that makes any difference. I was expecting a vibrant market with fresh produce, and local foods. Instead, it was just filled with a lot of closed storefronts (maybe due to the French August summer vacation), and overpriced and unappealing restaurants, with people smoking everywhere. We were in and out within 5 minutes. I regret walking the 15 minutes from our hotel to this.

We came to Au Coin Bio, just inside the market. Expensive, ordinary food. I had a tasteless, watery boeuf bourgignon, or excuse for one.
The waiter was extremely unpleasant, inappropriate and with disgusting lack of hygiene - wiping his nose with the filthiest hands, then handling plates, cutlery, glasses. Enough to make one vomit.
The worst lunch imaginable in Paris, avoid at all costs, revolting dump.

Really a must visit. The food purveyors are exceptional and there are numerous in market places to eat as well as to buy. Very popular with neighbourhood regulars and not too touristy. Not overly large but quaint and rustic. Very enjoyable mix of foodies, flaneurs and favoured customers.

After a couple of years I came back to this small and typical etnic and street food. I choosed as usual the marocaine and I didn't made a mistake. Tajine and cous cous are very good and the price is cheap. A nice stop in a small hidden edge in the big Paris. To try!

Is there somewhere to leave luggage while we peruse the market?
Written April 29, 2023
I don’t think so and I wouldn’t advise taking luggage there. It’s too busy.
Try Nanny Bag. we dropped our bags beside the Eurostar terminal for the day which was pretty cheap

I'd recommend going there for lunch or something.
I went early in the morning but a local (I assumed) told me to come back for lunch since it was a whole other atmosphere.
I didn't get the chance to go back and I regret it...

Il mercato è vicino a la Bastiglia?
Written October 5, 2017
Ciao Laura,
Il mercato è a 1,5 km dalla Bastiglia, cioè a mezz'ora di cammino. il meglio è andare in metropolitana alla stazione Arts et Métiers o alle figlie del Calvario. Personalmente preferisco andare da Arts et métiers. Buona visita
