The current Cathedral was consecrated in 1886, and it became a cathedral in 1922.
A big church in Gothic Revival style, it has beautiful stained glass windows from 1893-1893. The tower is among the tallest in Paris (85 meters, 280 feet)

No irishman can resist a few days in a city where Oscar Wilde found exile, James Joyce a publisher for Ulysses, Stephen Roche yellow (1), Sean Kelly green(4) and Beckett death! On a recent visit to Paris I visited a few churches not quite in the Notre Dame league. First stop was St Eustache, where Colbert is buried, where Mozart attende the funeral of his mother, Berlioz conducted the first peformance of his Te Deum and where Caser Frank and Lizt played the organ.
Eglise St-Augustin 46 Bd Malsherbes dominates the Place St Augustin and is a photographers paradise, particularly at night. Built in 1860 by Baltard, who was also the architect of Les Halles, its neo Renaissance exterior is merely a shell. Inside is an iron vault structure, even the decorative angels are cast in metal. One of the few statues of Joan of Arc in Paris is located directly in front of the church opposite the Cercle de Armees. Also in the 8e is the American Cathedral which was consecrated on Thanksgiving Day 1886, a few days after the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty, France's gift to New York. Designe by G E Street, who was also involved with Christchurch in Dublin, it is the finest example of English Gothic revival architecture on the continent While visiting churches may be a minority sport getting to these three will bring you by some of the best wine bars, bistros, and restaurants in Paris Bon appetit!

I had the pleasure of joining this church to feed the homeless during last year's Christmas season. If you're in Paris over Christmas, this is truly a rewarding experience... and you might learn some wonderful culinary skills :)) But, the other amazing thing... this church has a wall dedicated to honor American soldiers that fell on foreign soil. As an American from a long history of military men, I can't express the emotions of seeing this.
You'll enjoy it for sure!

Went to the cathedral on Christmas Day for the service and it was beautiful. We arrived there a little late but we were still let in and joined the congregation. The cathedral was decked out with poinsettias which complemented the stained glass windows. The flags of every state of the US are placed around the top part of the cathedral and there is a commemoration of all the US Navy, Army and Air Force who died during the first and Second World War. Definitely somewhere to go for a visit

We went to the 11:00 Sunday Service as we wanted to see the full service with music. There was a fair number of people attending. The choir and organ music was very good and since the service was fully in English we were able to follow and join in. Part of the church is currently being renovated, but the main chapel was open for the service and to fully view. It is a small church compared to Notre Dame, but a nice size and worth seeing even without attending service. We felt very welcomed and at home while there.

Earlier in september 2019, there was a truly incredible classical music (Mozart) at the American Cathedral, very enjoyable, it's only accessible through a prior reservation that you can attend this concert. It lasts only one hour 15mn but still very nice to hear. It was also a candlelight concert, very charming!

We attended the Christmas Eve service and came away disappointed and puzzled. The sanctuary is pleasant enough, but the service left something to be desired. For one thing, this is the "American" cathedral -- so why did they sing Little Town of Bethlehem and Away in the Manger to the English tune, rather than the tune to which Americans are accustomed? More seriously, the sermon (if you can call it that) from the Bishop was abysmal. He used most of his time giving us a review of his career, describing each parish that he had served over the years. The devotional or theological relevance of that tale remains a mystery. He concluded by telling us that at Christmas, we celebrate the fact that we "will live forever" and that the birth of Jesus symbolizes hope. He made no effort to develop either of those themes, or to connect them in any way with the nativity story. He could not even read the Gospel lesson from the first chapter of John without stumbling and losing his place. But the highlight, or perhaps the lowlight, was the choir -- a decent enough ensemble of volunteers, except for the lead tenor. If you have seen the parody movie "Airplane," you will remember the loopy control room worker named Johnny ("there's a sale at Penney's"). The tenor could have been his doppelganger, at least from where we were sitting. He did not seem to understand the concept of choral singing -- a blending of voices into a harmonious whole. Instead, he bobbed and weaved like a prizefighter, and since the choir director unaccountably placed him at the front of the choir, his performance drew every eye in the congregation. I tried, without success, to avert my eyes. And the sound he emitted was consistent with his physical performance: he bellowed out his notes in an apparent attempt to drown out the remaining 20 or so members of the choir. All in all, it was a memorable service, for all the wrong reasons.

I always enjoy attending Church while on the road in historically significant churches. This one is significant as the home of many American Expats. Great architecture, friendly people. The music was beautiful - in the Episcopal tradition. A great way to start Sunday morning.

We attended Sunday morning services here in this cathedral, which in no way approaches the size and drama of a Notre Dame. But for Americans who are visiting who are seeking a place to attend church on a Sunday morning, and would welcome a friendly handshake and a cup of coffee, this is a beautiful and welcome break from your hectic treks around the city.

It’s right in the middle of the most decadent part of Paris - Well known brands with expensive high end products along both sides of the Champs-Élysées.....and then this lovely cathedral!
I popped in for some peace and quiet. Enjoyed the lovely stained glass and the air of calm then lit 2 candles (for 1 Euro each) and said a prayer for the family.
There is a security guard but just let him know that you’d like to go in and sit in the pews and he was very welcoming.
