If, like us, you've been missing an in-person visit to the most beautiful city in Europe or longing to follow in the footsteps of Emily (in Paris) but have been thwarted by the realities of COVID, take a virtual walking tour with Gil Soltz’s Moontown Travel. We did and loved it...here's why:

My husband and I, experienced travelers, connected with Gil (i.e. Moontown) while in Paris a few years ago. At the time, we requested a spontaneous early evening walk and we were thrilled by the experience.

Every private tour that Gil creates for his clients is bespoke. For example, during our last "real" visit to Paris we were interested in absorbing how Parisians succeed in distinctively living the values of the French Republic - liberty, equality and fraternity. We requested an early evening walk and started in the 3rd Arr., traversed some cool old passages while wandering into the 10th and 11th, sauntered near the Canal Saint-Martin (which Napoleon I began in the early 1800’s to bring safe drinking water to Paris) and ended in the Place de la Republique where there stands a bronze statue of Marianne who personifies the French Republic. As our walk wound down to completion we felt that Gil had succeeded in giving us a unique insider view of Parisian life.

Last month (Oct. 2020) longing for a return visit, we decided to bring along our 91 year old parents and hired Gil for a virtual walking tour which was FANTASTIC. The evening curfew in Paris had begun in the days prior and we started our walk late in the afternoon...few people were afoot...we felt as though we had the city to ourselves! During our virtual afternoon with him, we began at the Bastille, proceeded to the Marais, and ended near the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Louvres. Gil has a deep knowledge of the historical, literary and social forces that have made Paris what it is today, so there is always the opportunity to be immersed in many layers and to learn a great deal.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to Gil to arrange your walking tour. You won't be disappointed.

I imagine Gil's virtual tours are amazing, but my family and I had the privilege of having Gil as an in-person guide during a recent week long trip to Paris. We hired Gil for 4 straight, full days to give us a comprehensive tour of Paris and Versailles. This trip was very special for our family because my ailing father had always wanted to see Paris. Gil created a phenomenal itinerary that was skillfully tailored to our desires and limitations (traveling with 2 elderly parents). Gil's attention to detail and knowledge of both modern and historic Paris is incredible. But he also, and more importantly in my opinion, has a baseline easy-going and fun personality that creates a relaxed vibe. By the end of the trip, my father said Gil was the absolute highlight of the trip. I highly recommend Gil in both a virtual and in-person capacity!

I had planned to take my mom back to Paris for her 93d birthday; canceled of course by covid. We surprised her instead with a virtual tour which became an even better celebration as our whole family of 12 was able to zoom together as we explored with Gil all mom’s most meaningful sites in Paris — ending perfectly at sundown on a bridge overlooking the Seine.

We had provided Gil with a dozen of mom’s favorite places located throughout the right bank and Gil wove them into an amazing 2 1/2 hour virtual tour incorporating history and local color (for example, walking on Rue Pavee we learned this was the first paved street in Paris).

Gil has an amazing sense of this magical city. He’s enthusiastic, knowledgeable, flexible, and very easy to work with. Sometimes it’s difficult to understand the accent of a foreign tour guide, however, being an American this was obviously not a problem with Gil. Can’t recommend him enough.

We had the good fortune of a walking virtual tour with Gil the past 2 weeks. Our financial group set this up for their customers. It was 4 parts and each tour was 2-3 hours! Gil was awesome and every day of our walking tour was raining. He braved all the walking with his camera, umbrella, a mask and heavier clothes because it was cold. He is a wealth of information about Paris and it was truly wonderful to feel like we were there with him. He answered any questions, he knew so much about the history, the culture, the arts....everything! If you go to Paris in person........I would highly recommend a tour with Gil! It will be the best money you spend for learning and seeing everything you want in Paris!
Thank you Gil! Eileen and Dave Johnson Virginia, USA

In a time when travel hasn't been possible this virtual tour of Paris was an incredible way to be able to experience the city and have the sights of Paris brought to you live right in your very own home! Gil has a natural gift for storytelling and his in depth knowledge and passion for the history of Paris shines through on this tour that was rich in information and captivating from start to finish. He seemlessly incorporated maps, historic images and visuals into the experience as he walks through the city to showcase the famous monuments and sites that make up modern day Paris. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge and it was great to see the city through the eyes of a local. I must add it was the middle of winter and Gil braved the conditions to provide this tour whilst I was able to enjoy the tour in front the comfort of home :) Thank you Gil for your time and making us feel like we were on holiday again! You have given us so many ideas for places we visit in the city when we are able to travel to Paris in person and would certainly love to take a tour with you when we can travel overseas again in the future!

The only thing we didn't like about our virtual tour with Gil was that he had to do all the hard work of running around while we ate breakfast in our warm house (7am in Denver, CO/USA). We wish we could have been there with you Gil, but your virtual tour had the same energy as the in-person French Revolution tour we took with you in 1/20. It was great to hear the kids remembered so much of the information you shared. (They say HI, and apologized for having to leave at various times, but this is the last week of school and classes were calling.) We will get better at using the chat feature to communicate with you during the upcoming tours, which we look forward to. You're our window into the world for now. Until we can meet in person again!

Throughout COVID I have stayed away from virtual travel tours thinking I would rather have an in person experience. My daughter gifted me Gil's January tour of Paris that spanned five separate two hour days. I was blown away at how much I enjoyed it. Gil made me feel like I was right there and he was able to make it interactive. His narratives were so informative and he adds his personal passion of the city, its culture, history and life to the trip. I saw Paris the way I had never seen it before. I highly recommend the virtual tour and can't wait to travel again so I can physically walk with him.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review of January's walks, Mary. It is always a pleasure to get feedback and feel the exchange working both ways. I'm particularly appreciative that you were able to experience the scope - or the arc - of the full month of walks before writing...It was wonderful to see your face on my end while we were exploring. It made the interaction natural. And when it's natural, it can be real and true to go along with the facts and figures...I look forward to you and your daughter breathing in the city of Paris with me again in all its virtual or actual glory. À bientôt!

Want to do something different during Covid? Not able to travel , see friends and family, well here's something you can do. Take a virtual trip to Paris with friends and family and have Gil be your personal tour guide.
Yesterday thats what I did. Gil is very knowable and friendly. We didn't have the best of weather but that never bothered him. For two hours Gil walked in the rain with a mask on and educated us on the history of Paris. He included some personal stories and answered all our questions.
This would make a great holiday gift to a family member or friend.

I've been on two virtual Paris tours with Gil and they were wonderful. He walks and talks through different neighborhoods discussing history and culture in a very friendly way. The visuals were great, including the closeups of mouthwatering Parisian food. Next best thing to being there!

Gil gives fantastic virtual tours of neighborhoods all around Paris. I've watched several of his tours and his knowledge of the neighborhoods, with historical facts and interesting details is immense. His continuous presentation as he walks all over while showing the neighborhoods makes it almost feel like you're there with him. I highly recommend any of his virtual tours.
