We had a great experience and it was the highlight of our trip. We were picked up by van at our hotel and taken to 6 different castles in the Loire Valley. We did 3 each day, plus a wine tour and tasting on the first day. It can feel a little rushed, but they did a good job of spreading everything out so you get the most out of the experience. The owner was with us the first day and is very knowledgeable and taught us a lot and answered all our questions. The second day we had someone else who did not speak English, but was great driving us to where we needed to get to on time and setting us up for each location, using Google translate to assist. I would definitely recommend for a couple or a small group.

We had booked a small group tour for Chablis wineries from Paris and whilst it was rescheduled by a day (no biggie for us) we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by an E class Mercedes for our private tour.

It was a great day out to some fantastic wineries and our driver was so friendly and accomodating.
He even took us on a little detour to get some great pictures of the Chablis area.

It’s a long day though, especially the 4 hour trip back from Dijon but we were happy and wine-d out.

Would book again with this team next time we’re in France.

We spent a wonderful 2 days visiting the castles of the Loire. The trip was fantastic. Interesting presentation of information, lots of time. Nobody pushed us, we could enjoy the beauty. Thanks for the company and organization.

I can't recommend Clewel Travel enough.
If you are on a tight timeline they are fantastic at putting together a package for you.
We had one day to see Mont St Michel, Omaha Beach and the US Cemetery. I reached out and Cyrus put this package together for us.
There was an issue with the payment that was entirely my fault. Cyrus was very kind and told me not to worry that everything was booked and we were able to work out the payment.
Or driver Alexi was very safe and our guide Valerie was fantastic.
It is a very tight timeline if you book this particular tour but that's because we packed so much into the trip in one day. But every American should goto the Normandy cemetery if only for 1min to grasp the totality of the US sacrifice and the beauty of what the French have done to honor the US soldiers that died in Normandy.
Two tips:
-GET WHATSAPP!!! - it's how people best communicate there and easier communication to solve problems.
-Request to leave as early as possible on this trip. You can sleep in the nice van,

I booked this tour months before our trip to Paris. I booked this tour through Viator in the United States. I had multiple direct emails with Clewel, specifically with Cyrus G. regarding my pickup hotel. Upon arrival in Paris, I had the hotel call Clewel to confirm our trip and pickup hotel. On the day before the tour, with less than 24 hours notice, I receive an email that they are cancelling the trip because their car is in the shop. I had to scramble to find another tour company to take us to Bruges at twice the cost. I found out that my wife and I were the only people signed up for the tour, so I suspect that is why they cancelled. It is hard to believe that a large tour company as Clewel only has one car available. Be aware, this can also happen to you.

Stay away from this company. We booked this tour with a English speaking guide. My French, which is terrible, was better than his English. He was only a driver and knew nothing about the area or World War II. He said he was our guide as well as driver. We asked questions and got one word answers. This company‘s idea of a guide is, “I will pick you up back at the car in 45 minutes. Here is the map.” I cut the tour short and had him return us to Paris.

It was a huge disappointment given that I’ve been reading and studying about World War II and the D-Day invasion for many years and was looking forward to a day with a local guide. We missed Mont St Michael due to severe unease with the guide and this company.

This tour is a full day tour to Mont Saint Michel with short visiting of DDay Beaches: Normandy American Cemetery, Overlord museum and Omaha Beach. Very important but few of them. This is not a Live Guided Tour. See description. In Mont Saint Michel the English guided tour is made by the Abbay/s guides. Our Mercedes picked up travellers on time and brought the customer to all places on time. The tour is really long over 14 hours but allows to see the most famous sights of Normandy. There are special Live guided DDay beaches tours offered by our and by other companies. The customer should have read the description before buying the tour. It is always useful and helps to avoid disappointments.

Our guide Valentin extended the magnificent experience by navigating the tour leveraging his knowledge nurtured through his academic background of studying history and his experience as professional ballet dancer, surely adding more depth in explaining on transition of French monarchy and its cultural impacts in association with the sites we visited.

The excursion to 3 castles under May Loire weather was beyond description, which experience was magnified by the wine tasting experience providing the opportunity to enjoy Loire wine produced by the local winery. We ended up with buying 3 bottles on site while also asking for future shipment after return as the quality and the reasonable price surely would justify paying extra shipping cost.

We cannot thank Valentin and the driver more for our very memorable and fabulous experience!

Our family of four took a trip of a lifetime to Paris in March 2024 for 10 days. Our youngest daughter had dreamed of seeing the castles in the Loire valley so was obviously on our must do list. We booked a full day (13 hour) live guided small group in a minivan for our family. We decided as it was a once in a lifetime tour we would splurge (over $400.00 per person).

The evening before the tour we got an email from our guide Cyrus saying he would pick us up at our Air B&B between 7:40 and 7:50 AM. We had previously provided our Air B&B address.

We were waiting outside our apartment at 7:35 and after waiting for 25 minutes I called the number listed in the website. Cyrus answered and let me know that the other two people on our same trip had not arrived and he had been waiting for them for 20 minutes. He said he was now ON HIS WAY and would be “5 minutes”. After waiting for another 15 minutes I called two more times before he answered. He just kept saying “it’s not possible, it’s not possible” before he hung up. Our family walked to a main intersection of our street out of desperation and saw a guy frantically walking around looking at the buildings for an address. I asked if he was Cyrus and he said yes said our address was “non existent”. My husband asked him if he used google maps and we pointed to the address on the side of the building our Air B&B was on. Cyrus rudely stated he’s “not a taxi driver”. I can guarantee our address existed as we had to use it for Uber while in Paris with no issues.

Regardless, we followed Cyrus to his van parked several blocks away. He was flustered and stressed the entire walk. I asked him if the other people he had previously referred to had not shown up, he said they had.

We got in the van and nobody else was there. I asked if we could sit closer to the front because my girls get motion sickness he gruffly said “no, we have others getting in”

We did one stop at the Intercontinental hotel (where nobody got in) then made our way to the Hilton where we picked up our other two guests. When they got into the vehicle you could see by their demeanour they were very unhappy.

Finally an hour and a half late we made our way towards the Loire Valley. The day was already going to be a long day and then knowing we were starting late was not a nice way to begin the day.

We had our first rest stop to use the bathroom and we had a chance to speak to the two guests that were picked up after us. They said they had been waiting for Cyrus for over an hour. They tried to cancel the trip but were not allowed. When they contacted the company to let them know they were still waiting for their ride to arrive the dispatcher stated that Cyrus told them he had picked everyone up already and were on their way. Complete lie.

First we visited Château de Chambord. Cyrus was frustrated when we weren’t “keeping up”. We were three steps behind and had just got off a long van ride. It was a totally unnecessary and rude comment.

The chateau was beautiful and we enjoyed it. We then drove to the town of Ambrois for lunch. We arrived at Ambroise at 2:00 and had only 30 minutes to order and eat lunch. Ambroise is a cute town and it would have been nice to have had a little time to look around. Next was Château d’Ambroise then Chenonceau. Both beautiful castles. Last stop was finally wine tasting 6:30-7:00 at Guillaume and Mathieu PLOU. Very nice winery with very personable staff.

We finally made our way back to Paris and arrived by 9:30. At drop off Cyrus loosely “apologized” for the start to the day but took no responsibility for lying with no admission that he left his house late or whatever the issue was. We are very understanding people and if he had been honest and said he had a problem we would have been much more forgiving. Instead he chose to lie and make a very awkward situation where it did not need to be. We did not find Cyrus to be very personable. It’s so unfortunate as your guide can make or break a tour.

I would like to advise anyone doing a tour with Cyrus from Clewel Travel that he is unreliable and not knowledgeable. Overall we were disappointed and feel like this had a negative impact on our trip.

Greetings from Cyrus ! Don't read negative reviews and keep good mood! Please ! The lady who wrote it was almost sleeping in the minivan during the trip as I was talking . Maybe I was not good enough like for the other couple and her husband who were listening maybe she was just tired. Who knows. Her first review by GYG next day after the trip had 2 stars. One monts later here just one star. Minus 1 star per month. Another couple who took part at this trip gave me a generous tipping and wrote the following 4 stars review on Viator. Mar 26, 2024 Angie_G Four stars because of the tour itself, but pickup gets a zero Viator review: Loire Valley Castles and Wine Small-Group Day Trip from Paris The chateaus and wine tasting were fantastic. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided loads of commentary and information. However there was over an hour late start because he could NOT read the address of the hotel for pickup and would NOT listen to the name given him or read it on the chat despite three confirmations. Then since no number was provided to call him I had to track him down via Viator. After being more than an hour late he wanted to cancel our tour (the highlight of our Paris trip) because I was “upset”. I would highly Recommended this tour, this guide just needs someone else driving that pays attention to details like location.
