The equestrian statue of Louis XIV dominates the square. The Sun King is depicted in the garg of a Roman emperor fresh from military wins in Europe. The original statue came down during the French Revolution. This version dates from 1822, based on one of Czar Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The high end designer clothing shops have been replaced for the most part by high end furniture and home goods. The architecture and harmony of this square are superb, partially marred by Haussmann's insertion of the boulevard. Lots of places to eat around.

Like its sister "Royal Squares", Place des Vosges, Place Dauphine, Place vendome and Place de la Concorde..... the Place des Victoires today flies the blue, white and red tricolore and the European flag above the Banque de France with its neoclassical entrance on the Rue de la Vrilliere. This handsome building blends in effortlessly with the harmonious architectural ensemble of the Place des Victoires and the equestrian statue of King Louis XIV in the centre.
The design of the round plaza with its magnificent surrounding buildings now housing numerous luxury fashion brands. The statue is a brilliant piece perfectly centred in a delightful trawl through this enclave.

Many people walk around without paying much attention but Place des Victoires is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Paris in the 75001. Every place in paris was build by a King you may noticed the difference between this place and Place des Vosges.
mmmm.... tricky and the answer will be Place des Victoires was build by Louis XIV while Place des Vosges by Louis XIII, round and square shapes will be the difference, but a nice tip not only you are in the oldest textile area in Paris rue du mail or rue abukir, today fancy store form high style designer took over, around the place Kenzo and some other superb stores. When Germans occupied Paris took la Maire ( a block away) as headquarter and build a tunnel which ends under the Horse with Louis XIV, fascinated as Paris is, enjoy walk around try to find the difference between the perfect building around the place and just profit from the magic.

Just like the reviewer below, this is my favorite square in Paris. If that how you could call it. I would say its a roundabout. A very calm one, with very little traffic. I like to go around this square and end up in nearby Galerie Vivienne and later the gardens of the Royal Palace.

We all have our favourite square in Paris, above and beyond all others. Don't you?
Mine, is this elegant circular square with fashion boutiques, much photographed in day light, which morphs into sheer magic by night lights. its surrounded by by lovely low rise buildings with the centre showpiece ,the guy on his horse,The sun-god Louis XIV,standing at a regal 12 m height.
It does not matter how many times you criss- cross this area ,it brings joy and with less traffic,a convenient conduit to another favourite, the Place des Petits-Peres on route to the peaceful formal gardens of the Palais Royal.
Your best metro stops are Bourse,Etienne Marcel and Pyramides.

A circular Place where 6 streets converge but is calm compared to most roundabouts in Paris. The place is impressive due to the uniform and elegant architecture. An impressive statue of King Louis 14th dominates the central area. Upmarket shopping area nearby. Just north of Les Halles with lots of attractions nearby. A fascinating area.

These days it is just a giant roundabout, for traffic, however the surrounding buildings and the centre piece statue of Statue de Louis XIV, makes it pleasing to the eye.
