We took the Highlights tour with Richard on our first day in Paris and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He met us at our hotel and gave us a wonderful overview of the city. We were able to view major attractions (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc..), as well as lesser known sites that we might have missed had we not booked with... More

My family and I took some Eye Prefer Paris Tours with Richard last month and they were the highlights of our trip to Paris. I have two teenage children and wanted to do some offbeat and fun tours, not just historical tours. Richard first took us around his area the Marais, and we just loved it. He told us the... More

I took a walking tour of the Marais with Richard and I loved it. This was not my first trip to Paris, but I wanted to see the neighborhood through the eyes of someone who lived there, and I had very specific requests. I wanted to see galleries, art, interesting shops and architecture and get a "feel" for the neighborhood.... More

We took a walking tour of the Marais with Richard, and while he was friendly, the tour itself was very light on historical and architectural information compared with other private walking tours we have taken. Most of the buildings we went into were shops. There was little value added from what we could get from any guide book. We all... More

Last week Richard walked with me and two girlfriends, showing us his favorite haunts in the upper Marais. Now, mind you, we were staying in the Upper Marais, but we'd missed them all! With Richard, we ducked in and out of shops seeing the latest examples of Parisien fashion, handbags, jewelry, foodstuffs, and art. We loved it! We saw sophisticated... More

We enjoyed our tours of both St. Germain and the Marais with Richard. This is seriously an insiders look at both these neighborhoods. We visited places we would have never seen. Richard was knowledgeable of the architectural and historical sights plus he knows food! It's a personal tour.. You won't get this with the big tour companies. He made it... More

We booked "Le Marais" walking tour with Richard. The tour covered the Lower Marais; Richard was kind enough to provide us with a map that focused only on Le Marais, which was quite nice as this was the neighborhood where we were staying. During the tour, he'll kindly circle/label points of interest for your reference if you'd like to return.... More

Richard is an excellent tour guide. He gives you information in a very casual "oh by the way..." manner, rather than making it feel like you're sitting in on a lecture. He's very personable and easygoing. I was travelling with my mom and my niece and we had a private tour of Le Marais with Richard. It felt like we... More

Richard's tour reminded us of visiting an old friend who wanted to share the nooks and crannies of his own neighborhood so that we would be tempted to return. Indeed we would. We felt like we had inhaled a little bit of the energy of the Marais, through peeking into its shops, tasting at its patisseries, wandering into its elaborate... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Richard. It was a mix of sightseeing and food tasting. I expected tiny nibles of food but was pleasantly surprised at the full side portions we got. His knowledge of the Marais neighborhood was extensive. I highly recommend Richard and his tour. It was money well spent.

Staying in Le Marais

Neighborhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendor. This neighborhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
