We had a wonderful time on our food tour. The tour guide John-Paul was informative, engaging, and delight to spend an afternoon with. At our first stop we enjoyed some delicious charcuterie with some wine. John-Paul is very knowledgeable by the wine in France. He would explain the region of the wine, the soil content, the owner’s thought process, and more. I am only a novice when it comes to wine, but If you are a wine connoisseur, this excursion is a must!
The 2nd stop was a delightful restaurant where we had a full meal. Delicious food and generous amounts of wine. The 3rd and final stop was for crepes and it was one of my favorite desserts while in Montmartre. Based on our table you couldn’t go wrong with the crepe you selected. Recommend trying the Apple Cider, it was very refreshing.
If you are not convinced yet, please know that John-Paul is an organized and thoughtful individual. Prior to the tour he inquired if we had any questions about Paris. We inquired about nice restaurants and popular locations for hot chocolates. He provided us a food map via Google maps that highlighted restaurants, macaroons, bread stores, and cafes he liked. Each location had a brief summary of what he liked.
Lastly, he covered topics beyond food and wine. While on the tour he spoke about the history of the area, the windmills, movie locations, the artists (he takes you outside the location of Renroir’s painting Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette), and more.
If it was not for this tour we would not have known about the artist area behind Sacre Couer nor would we have dined at Pottoka which is one of my favorite dining experiences ever. The place and the food is absolutely divine.
Thank you John-Paul for delightful and memorable afternoon in Montmartre. I wish your business endeavors much success.

My wife and I took the Latin Quarter Tour with John-Paul. I highly recommend it. We learned a ton of information about Paris and the food that Parisians eat. If you're looking to eat more than just steak frites and get to know some excellent food then this is it. On our tour we ate at the first restaurant rillettes de canard (kind of a duck confit), rillettes de sardines (ground up fish - delish) and calamars (calamari). At the second restaurant each individual chose an item off of the menu. I had albacore tuna with fresh sauteed veggies and my wife had the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes. Both items were excellent. At each restaurant John-Paul chose awesome wine to pair with the food.
John-Paul is an excellent guide. Friendly, out going and super knowledgeable. He's there to answer all of your questions. He is a native English speaker but also completely fluent in French so if you want to brush up on French he'll help you too. The day we took the tour was our second day in Paris and we overslept, but thankfully, John-Paul called us and we met them at the first restaurant.
We enjoyed the tour so much we booked a second tour later in the week. (Will add a review of that later this week).
The bottom line is that if you want to eat excellent food, drink superb wine, learn about Paris and it's gastronomy and have great conversation then this is it. You feel like you're visiting a friend in Paris who is able to show you French culture and food that you would probably not have see otherwise.

A little expensive but totally worth it.
We got a great tour of Monmartre with lots of good local history and interesting insights into Parisian culture. We walked beautiful little neighborhoods just far enough off the beaten path to make us forget it was a tourist area. John-Paul is a delightful host. We got lost on the way to the start point and missed it by 15 minutes but found that he had emailed us several times to try to connect with us. Once we reached the start point, he sent us a note telling us where the first restaurant was and we were able to meet the rest of the small tour there. It was just five of us along with our guide – the two of us, a nice family of three from Sweden, and John-Paul.
Wine, cheese, and charcuterie in the first restaurant, an easy walking tour to a fabulous lunch at the second restaurant, and then wrapping up at what John-Paul suggested was the best crêperie in Paris, and we believe it. Maybe most valuable, at the conclusion of the tour he gave us a list of recommendations for restaurants, wine and beer places, cheese shops, and other gustatory establishments. This was the list we used to find places to eat for the rest of our trip and each one was wonderful. In a town with 13,000 restaurants, that one part of the tour was incredibly helpful.
By the end of the tour we were well fed, entertained, and thoroughly happy.
When we return we will definitely be looking to take one of his other tours.

John-Paul and his wife Julie are just an absolute delight to explore Paris with. Down to earth, relaxed and very knowledgeable. The walking tours give you a great oversight of the area including a few historical facts and the restaurants and bars that you get to experience truly are wonderful. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and the wine is just divine.
The groups are small which allows you to get to know others whether you are travelling alone or with others. The timing of the tour is perfect, enough time to enjoy a sleep in (if that's your thing) and time afterwards to continue to explore the area if you wish too.
I was fortunate to experience both their tours and will continue to book them when I return. I know that they are expanding their offerings which will only make them even more popular.
John-Paul and Julie, well done. Keep up the great work and definitely keep in touch.

I had one day left in Paris, so I decided to book a food tour suggested by my sister. After doing a quick search online, this tour prominently appeared and I am so glad I booked it!
I ended up doing the Montmartre tour. John-Paul takes us to three places in the Montmartre where he gives a short lesson on the regions of France of where the cuisine we are eating. Also, we get a short tour of the area of famous artists that lived in the area such as Van Gogh and Picasso. Be prepared to do a little walking around a hilly area. Our tour did not expect hail in the weather. John-Paul was gracious enough to offer me his bag as an umbrella since I did not have one on me.
I was able to book the tour at a good time since it was possible it would have been full when I booked one day before the tour. John-Paul is on top of the communication through e-mail and was kind enough to wait for me when I was a few minutes late. He offers two tours. The next time I visit Paris, I will probably do the other tour, Latin Quarter, and maybe even the Montmartre tour again. This is a definite recommendation for anyone visiting Paris and loves food. Yes, there's a lot of things to do in Paris, but this tour is a must.

This excellent tour was the highlight of our trip to Paris. John-Paul first took us to a tiny restaurant where we had two very generous cheese plates and two bottles of wine (there were 6 of us). The next stop was a larger restaurant with an open kitchen where we chose our entrees and polished off two MORE bottles of wine. Our last stop was for amazing crepes and delicious cider.
At every location, John-Paul explained the history of that restaurant, and why he chose it for the tour. He went into detail about the history and local origins of the food and wine. It was obvious the the staff truly liked him and had a personal connection with him. During the walking portions, he was full of historical information, pointing out where famous painters lived and worked, the history of Monmartre, where to find the least expensive produce, how to get pastries for one euro, what to look for in a good restaurant or bakery.
After the tour, he gave everyone a list of restaurants he loved in all areas of Paris, and later emailed all the information on what we had that day. His thoroughness was impressive and he was very personable. We also made some new friends on the tour which made it extra fun!
At no time did we feel like we were being sold to or asked that we use his name if we went to a restaurant on the list. We simply got real local knowledge and history and truly delicious food. Next time we are in Paris, we will definitely go on their Latin Quarter tour, and I would do this one again in an instant!

Hi guys!
Thank you for your wonderful review! We really appreciate the time that you took to write as reviews like yours are a huge help for our business.
I just wanted to clarify that we get one bottle of wine at our first stop, and for groups of 6 or more we typically get two bottles at the second stop, in addition to cider or coffee at our third stop. We don't like to run out of wine while we are around the table so we always make sure to have enough for everyone!
Thank you again for your super review, stay in touch, and take care!
John-Paul

i went on two food tours on my trip to Paris. The other one was good, and I'll probably write a review of that one as well. But this one was great. John-Paul and his wife Julie, led this tour. It was raining, and they brought extra umbrellas for those in our group who didn't have them. They limit the group to 8 people; we had 7. We took a walk around Monmarte. First, we went to a cafe where we had charcuterie, cheese and bread with wine. Oh- and rillettes. First time I've ever had that and now I'm a fan. We moved on to lunch, where we had 5 choices for our plat. I had roasted chicken and scalloped potatoes (chicken was very good, potatoes were incredible). Finally, on to dessert, which I didn't need. We went to a very highly rated creperie. We could choose any crepe on the menu. I had one with chocolate sauce, banana, whipped cream and a dollop of vanilla ice cream. After one bite, well there goes any pretense of diet. I did not eat dinner that night.
But that's not all. Our hosts provided great info about wine, bread and cheese as well as the neighborhood. They showed us the Moulin Rouge and explained why it had that name, the cafe which is featured in the movie Amalie and the places where Van Gogh and Picasso lived. We ended at Sacre Coure, and John-Paul told us how to get back to the Metro station and where the nearby shopping was. They even gave us a ticket to either use on the furnicular which goes up to SC or for the metro.

Within hours of landing in Paris, we embarked on the culinary tour of Monmarte. It was the perfect start to an incredible trip! John-Paul and his wife were fantastic tour guides, and not only took us to incredible food tastings, but also gave us a bit of history of the area as we walked around. I was traveling Europe for a few weeks and scheduled food tours in every destination - and this one was a definite favorite! Unlike most food tours, John-Paul's includes a full meal, not just a bite to eat here and there. The meal consisted of three stops - one restaurant for appetizers, another for a full sit down meal, and for dessert, we went to a fantastic creperie, which was honestly the best meal I've ever had. I even went back to the creperie the following day because I loved it so much! To top it all off, John-Paul and his wife gave everyone a sheet a paper with a list of all the restaurants that we visited on the tour, in addition to a list of recommended restaurants and wine shops in almost every district of Paris. It was such a lovely touch! I ended up going to a few of his suggested restaurants, and they were fantastic! Overall, this tour is a must! John-Paul and his wife are lovely, knowledgeable and incredibly hospitable! I can't wait to return to Paris and go on another tour with them!

John Paul took us around to some great restaurants. The creperie at the end was so amazing that we had crepes pretty much everyday of our stay in Paris albeit at establishments closer to where we were staying. Great food overall and knowledgeable guide.

Our Montmartre culinary tour was a highlight of our time in Paris. Everything previously written is correct. At the end of the tour you feel like Jean-Paul and Julie are your new friends. Would recommend doing early in your stay in Paris so you know where to return to eat and drink because the places they take you to and give you written information on are much better than where we ate in the tourist places.

Since there is no availability for this tour right, what are some similar tours? We’re looking for a more restaurant/culinary experience and not just a walking tour where you just get samples.

Hello, I am interested in taking a tour next week. I have emailed you but still haven’t heard back. Do you have any availability? If so, how do we proceed?
Written April 7, 2019
Hello,
Thank you for inquiring about our tours! I apologize for just getting back to you now. We have been on the road since Friday morning and I haven’t had the access to check my emails as frequently as I normally do.
Unfortunately we do not currently have availability on any of those dates that you mentioned in your email. However, if that changes, then we will be sure to let you know.
Thank you again for contacting us and we hope that you enjoy your stay in Paris!
All the best,
John-Paul

i am interested in a food tour in Montmartre, but i am travelling with a senior. Is there one that has limited walking?
Written December 28, 2018
Hello Jodi,
Thank you for inquiring about the Montmartre tour!
There are some hills on this tour, so it depends on how comfortable you are with it. If you are worried about the walking on this tour, here is what I propose:
-Between the first and second restaurant, we will be walking uphill, and I don't really see much of a way around this. However, the distance between the restaurant is relatively short (950 feet or 290 meters), so I think it will take no more than 10 minutes to get there. We will stop to talk about a couple of things along the way.
-For the part between the second and third restaurant, we can call a taxi from the second restaurant to have it take your travelling companion to our third restaurant. We typically walk about 20-25 minutes between the restaurants, and a part of this segment is uphill, though part is flat and downhill.
-We finish the tour at the base of Sacré Coeur, and as there are stairs and a funicular (tram) to go up the front of the hill to the church, I like to give everyone a ticket to take the funicular up to the top of the hill as it offers a splendid view of the city.
Feel free to contact me directly by using the link at the top right of the Culinary Tours of Paris tripadvisor page (Tripadvisor does not allow us to put the direct link). Do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.
Thank you again for your message and we hope to hear from you again very soon!

John-Paul

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I’m a foodie but I do not drink alcohol. Is wine a major focus of the tours? Are there other people who just enjoy the food and not the wine?

Yes the wine is a big part but I’ve been on his tours many times and a non-wine drinker will enjoy.. great food and lots of info

I wouldn't take young children on this tour. There is quite a bit of walking and sitting. I think middle school and up would enjoy it.
