Galerie Vivienne, behind the Palais Royal is the most refined and accessible of the passage. Inside this classy arcade, you'll find a chic wine bar, expensive tea salon, funky cafe, and trendy dress shops. No public WC. Getting there: metro stations Bourse, Pyramides, Palais Royal).
If you ask me - do you need to make a special detour to visit this place? - my answer would be - NO, unless you need to hide somewhere from the rain.

Paris has many stylish passageways, and this one in the very center close to Domaine royal palace counts imo in the best and most stylish ones, from the architectural point of view.
It's a very old one, built in 1823 and at the time of our visit some renovations were going on. Its mosaics on the floor are amazing, reminding me on the Vittorio Emanuelle in Milan, as well the glass roof.
The Vivienne gallery caters for higher class brands so we were not shopping here, but nevertheless highly enjoyed our visit.

I never get tired of visiting this covered passage. From the early 19th Century, one of the world's first attempts at an indoor mall, it has been lovingly restored and is now full of upscale shopping. I kind of liked it more years ago when it was funky, but I do adore the style and I love to stop and browse the post cards and books. A good wine store here as well.

The arcade is beautiful in its own right with a handful of eclectic stores throughout. At either end are some good dining options (the Bistrot Vivienne is a reliable option for an evening meal) and there is a really nice cafe in the centre of the arcade which is a good light lunch option (quiche and salad is great). Not a destination in its own right but a nice way to spend an hour or so if it's cold or wet outside.

This is one of those places where I never get tired of returning. This is an early 19th Century shopping mall, a shopping and eating revolution at the time because it got folks off the dirty streets. Today it is splendid, beautifully restored, now full of high-end retail experiences. Still you can window shop for free.

I never tire of visiting this beautiful galerie. It was built as an early 19th Century shopping mall to get folks off the dirty crowded streets and to protect them during bad weather. Instant success. The big department stores sort of replaced them, but now the galleries are being revived with upscale shopping and dining, and this is probably the most beautiful.

One of the places we always go to when we are in Paris. You can shop here and eat here, but we come just to breathe in the early 19th Century atmosphere, the time when the covered passages were created as a way to get people off the dirty streets and into a pleasant environment. The restoration here is complete.

Each time I am in Paris, I return to this covered passage to drink in the lovely design. It has improved over the years, cleaned up and restored with love. But with the improvements the funky stores and eating places have disappeared and now just about everything is expensive. But you can still stroll through for free, which is what I do and what I will do the next time.

We finally found Gallerie Vivienne which was described as an upscale shopping experience in the secret passages of Paris .
The shops were beautiful, the cafes looked wonderful ( we did not eat here due to time) and the architecture was charming.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would recommend this if you have time to visit

This adorable covered shopping passage is a nice reprieve from the busy streets of Paris. It is a quiet area to walk through and look at all the unique one of a kind shops in a covered shopping area. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Lots of lights and festive garland. However, because we visited on December 24, not a lot of the shops were open. We were limited to window shopping. There were restaurants open in the area. It is definitely something to see while you are in Paris.
