The area

Address
Neighborhood: Ile de la Cité
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

This very large building takes up a lot of real estate on Ile de la Cite. It's from the 19th Century and replaced another big hospital on another site on the same island. It's a major provided of health care and I understand that visitor can walk in here and be served.

When I first saw this on TA, my first question was why would you visit a hospital unless you really, really had to? Well, we were in the area on the Ile de Cite, so we dropped in, first we said Bonjour to the security guard who was very helpful when we said we just wanted to visit the garden and he pointed us to the courtyard/secret garden. We have to say it is simply stunning - you could be forgiven for thinking we were in the garden of a palace. We can’t wait to return to hospital for another visit in Spring or Summer (don’t hear that often, do you!).

Had a wander around Hotel Dieu De Paris as me and my twin brother Stephen were exploring around the wonderful Île De La Cité and what an impressive place this is .
A huge complex ,there's been a hospital of some form on this spot since 651 ,the buildings we see today date from the 1800's and look in amazing condition ,there's a nice well kept garden area that's very peaceful ,all in all a great place to visit if you're near Cathedral Notre Dame .

We were on our way home after sightseeing and saw the sign, amazed about a hospital working since 651 AD! We stepped in to see a very pretty garden and buildings from the 1800s, though not much info around, and only one person at a desk, offering no information. So we just wandered around for a few minutes. Still it was a nice respite from the busy streets outside.

We entered this ancient old and historic hospital building and walked around, then stopping- we saw the outside place too.

It’s easy to get to- we came across it when going to see the Note Dame Cathedral.

See my two photos describing this place and its history.
