I did not go into this museum with exceedingly high expectations after reading the reviews, therefore I really was not disappointed. The historical items were pretty interesting and I liked looking for "Story of O" references since I had read it a few months before. The retro porn was also kind of fascinating. There are multiple floors and a basement, I'd say the top floor is pretty much a waste and don't skip the basement. Certainly some things were more eye raising than others, some shocking, some funny, some boring. No regrets but once is probably enough.

I have to say that the museum overall is interesting and unique, reminds you that we are sexual and perverted human beings since always. The fee is 10euro/adult and you will find the first two floors quite interesting and captivating. The more you go up, it gets duller till the last floor.
It's definitely something you should visit if you're up for a chuckle and some fun/interesting facts.
For me one I'm afraid it will be a one time visit only.

It is more an exhibition than a museum. Given the theme, it could be a lot more interesting and show some knowledge on eroticism over the course of history and from the point of view of different cultures. Instead, it just shows interesting and diverse artifacts, but you don't get o learn a lot from them. It mustn't be the top priority when visiting Paris, but it sure deserves a look.

What a waste of time and money! The museum of Erotic Art promises much…but fails to deliver, on every count, trading on it’s location in Pigalle.
It is neither ‘in your face’ porn, - like the sex museum in Amsterdam, or a tasteful examination of erotic art.
An expensive and boring way to dodge the rain.

Sad to hear this place is closing its doors. Nice place to visit for the open minded. Start on the top floor via the elevator. Take your time and have dinner after. You will have a appetite. I would NOT recommend this for kids.

A great collection of erotic art from all cultures, very entertaining. Don't miss out the top floor where we were pleasantly surprised to discover a man dressed in bondage attire. Said gentleman was more than happy to pose for a photo and even extended his hospitality as far as offering us a strip tease!

The museum was right next door to the hotel and my friend and I were walking back from dinner, it was late (12am) but we weren't quite tired enough for bed so we decided to pop in and check it out. Admission was pretty cheap and we spent about an hour checking out all the floors (there were more floors and more pieces on display than I was expecting). It was interesting to see, that while everything was more or less tackling the same subject matter, how differently the different cultures went about it. Would I say it's a must see? No. But did it keep me entertained for an hour on the cheap? Definitely. Would recommend if it's late, you've got some time to kill and you're not opposed to seeing naked bodies/sex.

I visited the Musee de l'Erotisme earlier this month with a good friend. I think it's relevant disclosure that both of us are avid fans of both art and sex politics and were looking forward to how the French, who have given us Foucault and the Marquis de Sade, would present sex-related artifacts within an historical, religious, political, so on context. What we got was an incredibly disappointing semblance of a museum that looked like a garage-sale sporadically supplemented by amateur commentary.
While the Musee de l'Erotisme clearly has an incredible collection of artifacts relevant to very many cultures and people, the presentation was appalling, and the level of critical analysis was even worse. Artifacts with dubious connection overflow their casing (you leave part of your collection in storage and put them out according to their exhibitorial relevance!) and a short, incredibly generalised and often false or at least problematic description of one of the artifacts will sit amidst 5 or 6 artifacts. Which one is it describing?
Oftentimes one commentary would negate another in the same casing! In one casing with various Greek artifacts, one commentary explains that the ancient Greeks (all of them?) were prudish and reserved about sex. Meanwhile, the next commentary explains that they were without restraint or restriction. Which one is it? Well, to a classicist the answer would be neither, as it is not that the peoples of the ancient Greek city-state had more or less sexual mores than say contemporary Parisians, but that their sexualities were conceptualized somewhat differently. Though, at its core, not so differently.
All in all, it's this analysis that made the Musee de l'Erotisme so disappointing. After all, museums are not just giant houses that store really old stuff, they are institutions that provide a gateway into another perspective on what it means to be a human on earth. A museum with such a collection paired with academic analysis would seriously challenge modern western conceptions of a "healthy, normal sexuality." I would highly recommend that the owners hire skilled academics of sexuality and a proper curator and undergo serious renovation and reorganization for at least a year. If not then I think the city of Paris ought to confiscate the artifacts and install them in a more reputable museum.

I highly recommend this museum as a diversion from Paris' more serious and renowned museums and sights. This museum has folk art and contemporary art focused on erotic themes as well as a very interesting historical section of photographs of the 'red light' district in earlier times.

I was pleasantly surprised at the extent of the collections. I was also pleasantly surprised at the handsome young man dancing on the top floor. I almost didn't go up there because it seemed that the exhibit stopped at the floor below. I also remember one statute that I wished I could purchase, it was beautiful! This museum is well worth the visit and I found it to be very inexpensive. Try to spend at least 2 hours there if possible.
