Great museum for everyone and every occasion!
This was an AMAZING museum that I spent a solid two hours in, listening to and learning about the different historic instruments. It could also be great for a small side trip during a busy day or if you are in the area. The route through is a little confusing for an American tourist like me but once I figured it out it made sense. I really enjoyed the vastness of the collection along with the beauty of the building itself! And as a bonus, it was completely free for me! Highly recommend this somewhat hidden gem in the outer arrondissements.

Wonderful hall with amazing acoustics for music and modern architecture lovers alike
The only thing keeping this from a five-star review is that that there are not that many comfortable waiting areas, but this tends to be an issue with many music halls. We chose our seating carefully as to be basically at stage level with fully unobstructed viewing of the soloist, the conductor, and the orchestra. We will definitely try for the same tickets on each future visit. The ensemble? No need to go much into that - it's one of the best and we thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

What a great find in Paris. A friend living in Paris told us us to go here. What a great museum of old musical instruments and they even give concerts. It is in the 19 AR and definitely worth a visit if in paris.

And of course the architect or whoever finished the building needs a kick up the arse for leaving ladies as usual with far too few toilets. After the concert there was a huge queue for the three ladies’ stalls plus one for disabled, while we men had six urinals and two loo stalls. Why does this dreadful business go on and on in public buildings? The building looks ´too clever by half’ to my eyes, rather cold and overpowering, certainly far from welcoming, and badly signed from the street. Not really a pleasant place to visit. However the acoustics were very good as we were sitting very high up in a balcony.

The concert hall itself is stunning, the acoustics are possibly the best I have ever experienced, especially in the top tiers. However the building whilst an Architectural marvel falls down massively on function. The ladies toilets had three cubicles to serve several hundred at the intervals ! One bar with massive queuing at interval, totally design over function. Not enough seating either. It needs a total re think inside for facilities.

Concert hall though amazing

Great museum for any music lover. The museum has the history of the musical instruments, how they were introduced not only to Paris but in Europe in general. The price of admission includes an audioguide however some the main displays are only in French. They have a huge collection of old instruments including some really interesting pianos. Many of the historic pieces have an English explanation of its history. The museum end with a collection of world instruments. There are also a history of music theatres and performance houses. This is a definite place to any music lover.

This music museum is in the immense Parc de la Villette and just one building
farther is a concert hall. This is a great museum if you are interested in music.
There is much more to see in the parc not connected to music.

Utterly beautiful building, stunning at every turn. As a concert hall, intimate with clear, crisp acoustic.

Every part of this building screams music!

Not sure what building other negative reviewers visited. Perhaps they just wanted a square box?

Apparently, if you are only a few minutes late (meaning less than 10 minute), you cannot get the seats that you paid for. They do not check your tickets and then rush you to some back of house seats, as punishment for being late. Not recommended for the price. You could have had some uncontrollable event cause you to be late. They don't know. Go elsewhere.

This is probably the best music museum in the world. It has a wonderful collection of all western musical instruments organized in a chronological order showing their development. Visitors are provided with an individual listening unit in their choice of language. As you progress through the five floors of exhibits you can select and listen to short audio segments about the particular exhibit. Many of the instruments on exhibit also have numbers which can be entered on the keypad of the listening unit to hear brief excepts of music played on each o fthe instruments. Many of the instruments on display are rare and of significant value: Stradivari violins, historical pianos, original brass instruments made by Sax, etc. In addition to the western/European instruments and musci there are also displays of electronic instruments and ones from other areas of the world (Asia, Africa, Latin America, etc.). This museum is a must see for anyone visiting Paris and with an interest in music. It is not an exageration to say that this may be a more unique and memorable place to visit than some of the other more well known attractions in Paris!
