I was lucky enough to get the last spot on the English tour -- even though I booked online weeks in advance. So fortunate to see this exquisite building in person! Built by Napoleon III, it opened in 1875. Every inch is a masterpiece and a feast for your eyes. Grand Staircase is white Carrara marble. Chandelier weighs 8 tons and has 340 lights. The Grand Foyer rivals Versailles. The Auditorium has 5 tiers of red velvet and gold leaf. The new ceiling by Marc Chagall was added in 1964. Now used primarily for dance performances. Most opera performances are now held in the newer, larger Opera Bastille. If you have an opportunity to visit this venue, take it!!!!

We took the English language guided tour with Rita and it was an excellent guided tour of a beautiful building. Rita was well prepared and had excellent background knowledge of the building and its history. She made the tour interesting, engaging and humorous for everyone on the tour! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Paris!

Le Opera de Garnier is my absolute favorite place in the world! The astounding beauty of the theater is breathtaking. And the magic of the romantic tragedy of the Phantom of the Opera can be felt throughout your exploration of this heavenly palace.
However, you are unable to visit the cellars of the Opera and try as you may, you will not find a way down. Although this may be disappointing to the diehard fans, it is still absolutely worth it and you can even touch the door to box 5, which is oh so special!
Absolutely enjoy your time there💕

It was a hot day but well worth the wait in line.
This place is beautiful.
So ornate.
The pictures you see do not do it justice.

Gorgeous, opulent interior and very affordable ticket price. Doesn't take too long to see everything, but I spent extra time taking lots of photos. One of my favorite experiences of my Paris visit!

RITA was « formidable » on my English-language guided tour. She was patient with technical issues, ensured the tour’s content was relevant and relatable to everyone (especially kids) and didn’t miss a beat presenting information in a humorous, informative and creative way. Rita is phenomenal, and I give her my highest recommendation for guided tours of the Palais Garnier.

It was a great experience and my tour guide was amazing! Her name is Retia, and she was so sweet and gave a fun tour. Guided tours allow you to sit in the theater when otherwise you would be unable to.

Book a guided tour in advance in order to enjoy this outstanding piece of architecture and art. One of a kind building. Not close to anything you have seen.

I bought 3 tickets to visite autonome du palais garnier Lundi 26/09/2022 a partir de 10H:oo. Is this ticket only good for 10H:00 or is it possible to take the tour in the afternoon instead like around 15H:00?
Rich Miller
I was able to call the Palais Garnier and they confirmed for me that while their hours of operation varies from day to day based on performances, on the date I am going they take tours from 10am to 4pm and that the ticket is good for anytime that day, even though it has 10am printed at the top. And this makes sense since I don't remember selecting an actual time when purchasing the tickets.
Hi everyone!
If I purchase a ticket to the opera / ballet at Palais Garnier do you know if I can arrive early and do a self guided tour. Is it included in the opera / ballet ticket?
Or do I need to purchase another tour ticket?
Thank you

I am torn between a self-guided tour to have a bit more freedom and time to explore and the guided tour by a person (in English). I worry that with a group guided tour I will not get as many photos without people in it (if we are all walking around in a group) and will not be able to walk around at my own pace, but I have heard the guided tours are more informative and you can ask questions. What are your experiences? Thanks.

Don't worry - we took the guided tour (excellent) and managed to grab countless photos with almost no people in them. :)

I'm looking to tour Garnier Opera either July 1st or 2nd .. When I go on their website to look at potential times avaiiable, it only offers a 10 am time slot for both days? Why are there no other times available so far in advance?

I would contact them directly via email.
Only they would actually know and confirm why their times are limited.

What is the typical wait time to get in, in high season July, if you don't have an advanced ticket?

You need to book your trip in advance and normally you go 30 min before the visit time. If you do not book and you want to get tickets just before your visit you have 2 scenarios:
1. Wait for 45-60 min in line
2. Find no tickets

Lots of stairs, but also ramps and elevators for people with limited mobility. You are golden for most (if not all) rooms. The auditorium was closed when we were there 2 weeks ago, but I am sure that if the rest is entirely accessible, so it the auditorium!

Bonjour
Nous avons réservé une visite guidée à l'opéra garnier. Est-ce que les sacs à dos sont autorisés, avec sandwich et petite bouteille d'eau?
Merci des réponses.
