    Huge modern opera house
Attended the recent production of Turandot. Superb singing and orchestral playing and a modern stylish production. However, the actual staging and choreography were bizarre. I don't know if modern productions are the norm here but have this in mind if you prefer a traditional approach. Good acoustics and sightlines in the stalls.

Amongst the world's top opera houses
The Bastille (along with the Palais Garnier) offers top class opera with world class stars. The Bastille benefits from good sightlines from every seat, in my experience. Not every production will be to the casual opera attendee's taste, but that is true in all the top opera houses in the world. And this ranks among the top there. The prices are not astronomical and the whole experience is good value for money..

    Opéra de Paris Bastille
I fully agree with some of the opinions below - a very ugly building , both inside and outside , especially in comparison with the main historic one - Palais de Garnier . Even though the performances and the artists are amazing , the building really spoils the overall impression. It is especially embarrassing to see such a strange piece of architecture in France, which boasts so many buildings buildings .

    Visit of the rooftop gardens
This is a review for the special visit of the rooftop gardens. The opera rents out a couple of its rooftops to an organization that grows organic fruits and vegetables. This was an interesting visit, finishing with a beautiful view of Paris. The advantage is that from the opera you can’t see the ugly building and instead look at a nice panorama…

I booked our tickets several months in advance came over from the United States. When we arrived the line was very long and was not moving for about a half hour. The staff came out and abruptly said no more people could come in the building and that they had too many people in the building would not let any more in and shut the doors on everyone. They did not offer any recourse as far as rebooking or getting a refund for the tickets and they were very expensive. Obviously we did not get to see the ballet. Disappointed

Opera Bastille is a modern building. It opened in 1989. We did not go inside but only viewed it from the street. It has its own charm and it will probably not appeal to many people. It stages many opera and ballet performances. Worth a look or if you wish you can visit and attend a performance, if you are lucky enough!

My wife is in a wheelchair. She booked a ticket a couple of weeks ago and informed the company of her disability. She has been placed away from the seats and against a wall. Surely this is not the way we treat the handicapped in the year when the paraolympics are being held in Paris.
Complete fail on the part of the Bastille management.

We have been lucky enough to attend a number of performances at the Paris Opera over the last few years at both the Opera Garnier and the Bastille. On our most recent trip we were able to catch two operas at the Bastille. As ever, the standard of both the production and the singers was very high and they were great experiences. The seating is good, the sight lines excellent and the front of house staff were very helpful. We plan to be back in Paris before the end of the year and will return. Highly recommended.

We saw The Barber of Seville. It was a contemporary interpretation and fabulous. It is perhaps the most elaborately staged event I have seen. At curtain call I counted 39 performers! The contemporary interior of the theater is beautiful. So, we have all heard how stylish Parisians are. Some at the opera were. I wore a sport coat, black slacks, black shirt and tie, hoping that I would be acceptably dressed enough and not embarrass my country too much. I would say that I was in the top third best dressed. The French middle age woman next to me wore denim pants, the 30 year old French guy in front of me wore a tee shirt with sweat soaking through and you could see his hairy back, another older man wore an old sweater, and a woman wore a casual down jacket. Only about a third of the men wore ties. I am far from a fashionista, but I was more than surprised. These people were not exceptions. From this there are 2 messages. First, don't avoid going to the Paris Opera if you think you won't be fashionably attired. I would still however be nicely dressed, even if more casually. Second, Western civilization is apparently near the end if this is the way Parisians of all people are dressing these days for the opera. :-)

I recently visited Paris and wandered by the Opera Bastille to try and get tickets to see Francis Bacon, Le Anatomie de La Sensation Modern Ballet. I probably arrived 1 hour before the performance (on a weekday) and was able to buy a single for around 60 euros. The performance was fantastic! I grew up dancing so I especially enjoyed the modern dance, as well as the understated simple costumes worn by the dancers. Be sure to buy a program for around 10 euros that has bios of the performers as well as some of Francis Bacon's artwork that the choreography was inspired by. It was a treat having this to look back on once I came home. The dress was across the board, from casual to dressy. The performance lasted about 2 hours and did not have an intermission, so hit up restrooms before you are seated.
